Why Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is the superior View Askewniverse film -

I like Kevin Smith's View Askewniverse but if i had to pick the best film in the cinematic universe, it would be the 2001 classic Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Now, most people like Clerks and some favor the ill-faded Mallrats but i think Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is probably the film that established the View Askewniverse. The film itself is about Jay and Silent Bob trying to stop Miramax from owning the royalties to a film based off of Bluntman & Chronic (which is based off of Jay and Silent Bob themselves) and tainting their image. This film was very funny and it was the best film out of the View Askewniverse. Now, how does it make it the superior film? Well, the movie has around 3 subplots. the original Clerks film and earlier View Askewniverse films has around 1 plot to 2 subplots. Also, this was supposed to be the final View Askew movie to star Jay and Silent Bob, and it sure does feel like it. If you were to watch this or any other View Askew movie, i highly recommend you watch this movie instead.

I know this is a cheap copypasta bait post, but I'll admit I enjoyed Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back unironically.

It's good "turn off your brain" entertainment and I love that type of stuff, especially compared to the pretentious "everything is political" and "true art/so deep" approach of entertainment over the past ten years.

Still, my favorite Kevin Smith films are Clerks and Clerks 2.

Mallrats is also pretty fun for similar reasons as Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back.

OP is still a faggot though

It's definitely the least pretentious of his films. As much as I like (his early) stuff there is a wee bit of pretentiousness about them. This one is the best when you just want to laugh.

Slightly off topic, but I've seen Clerks 2 listed among the worst sequels ever made and I never understood why. Why do people hate that one? I thought it was pretty damn good.

Anyways, J&SBSB isn't my favorite, but is solid fun. Its a gag fest where most of the jokes land, so I'm okay with it.

I loved Clerks 2, but I think it gets a lot of hate because it's neither the goofball fun of Jay & Silent Bob Strikes Back, Mallrats, and Dogma, but it isn't quite as witty and "lightning in a bottle" like the first Clerks or Chasing Amy was.

Basically, everyone was going into Clerks 2 thinking it would either be the goofiest and most screwball funny View Askew flick ever or that it would be more "quirky indie" than Clerks was (and Clerks only came across as "quirky indie arthouse" because of budget limitations) and it was neither of those things.

The fact that it came so soon after the universally-reviled Jersey Girl probably didn't help at all.

I get the feeling that Clerks 2 is basically what Clerks would've been like if Kevin Smith had an actual budget, which is part of why I love it.

yeah JSBSB was fun and really should have been the ending of it

Eh, I think Clerks II made for a good epilogue to the View Askew universe. It works well as one of those "back to where it all began" endings.

Anything after that was pointless and gratuitous at best.

I think a lot of that is Dave Mandell's of Seinfeld fame's writing tbf.

Don't forget Steve "I'd like to take a minute to thank the moderators" Lookner (now more known for Agenda-Free TV on Youtube) wrote an episode of Clerks: The Animated Series too.
