I don't know whether you have ever heard of Wikitravel, but there was a fork some time ago and unlike our friends over at Rationalwiki (who take the fork in surprising good sport considering their usual sperg-fests) their attitude towards the fork is ridiculous... IIRC the reasons for the fork were the outdated software (Hello Rationalwiki) and the erratic behavior of the paid admins including ignoring the community... Oh, and it went for profit and advertising driven...
