doesnt matter if youre a believer and think that God will come to speak to the people directly again or that a steroid will hit the earth and destroy humanity, or maybe a disaster known to us but in such scale the whole world changes (and gives us a post apocalyptic world). do you think that will happen in the next ~50 years in our lifetimes and what is the end game in this century. i honestly believe something big is about to happen because the 21st century has been pretty boring so far, and you know how they say, the sea is calm before the storm... corona is the beginning of a major change for me. i think that we are currently living the downfall of society and that people dont realize it yet so we will eventually collapse ourselves as a society but i am not sure what happens afterwards.

Though on topic, I'm just waiting for the next war to start. Not a world war, just like Iraq/Afghan part 2 or something. There's potential for another Irish civil war with Brexit heating up, so as a Brit I'm getting ready to get blow up by hidden explosives in postboxes again if covid doesn't wipe us out first.

I think if the steam engine, internal combustion, and electricity were the technologies which defined the 19th century, and if the transistor, the birth control pill, and the atomic bomb were the defining technologies of the 20th century; then the technologies which will define the 21st century will likely be artificial intelligence, nanotech, and biotech.

I don't see any legitimacy in claims that society is going to collapse, although I do think that our economic system will be unable to exist in it's current form if technology develops in the ways that I think it's going to. It's difficult to predict exactly how things will play out, although I suspect that we might end up eventually transitioning from neoliberal capitalism to a kind of managerial technocracy. I can't decide exactly what role human decision making will play in this, but it appears to be the most likely outcome.
