As the national anthem was being played prior to the WNBA's season-opening game between the Seattle Storm and the New York Liberty, all players from both teams returned to their respective locker rooms as a sign of solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

Also before the start of the game, the two teams participated in a 26-second moment of silence in remembrance of Breonna Taylor, the 26-year-old Black woman who was killed by police in her Louisville, Ky., home in March.

The league has been transparent in its support for Black Lives Matter. "Black Lives Matter" is printed on all of the league's courts, and players before the game sported black warmups with the phrase on them as well.

Players across most of the country's professional sports leagues have shown their support for the movement by either kneeling or wearing Black Lives Matter-inspired warmups.

The movement was regalvanized at the end of May when George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, died after a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes.

While all of the former officers involved in Floyd's death have been arrested and criminally charged, the trio of officers responsible for Taylor's death have not been fired from the Louisville police force, nor have they been charged with crimes.

The WNBA season, like the rest of American sports, was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Each team will play an abbreviated 22-game schedule. All games will be played inside a social bubble at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

I am actually not mad. I am actually happy that they give people more reason not to watch.

I'm sure that really sets the pieces for change. I can't imagine how the people holding them back can maintain their grip for much longer after that.

It always has to be a show.

Yet another "professional sport" doing their best to alienate as many people as possible.

Amazing. When you have a cause, it would seem necessary to get as much public support as possible. You would think these "athletes" would stand for the national anthem, showing all and sundry that they are just as much Americans as everyone else. Same thing with all the other childish and stupid acts BLM and their followers commit. It's as if they don't want real progress regarding race in our country at all, just want to act like idiots. Once again, BLM consigns itself to the margins, when they had a real chance to address problems. Some things will happen in some places, you'll see more black faces on TV, but most people now just factor BLM into the background noise. If BLM doesn't take themselves seriously, no reason for anyone else to, either.

The attitudes of some of these WNBA players is fascinating to me considering the league loses literally over ten million dollars every year.

They complain that the NBA management "won't pay them enough" while the NBA took a $12 million loss last year.

It's to the point where they literally have to give away free tickets to playoff games.

MLB tried that where during Opening Day Yankees-Nationals game the players knelt during a Morgan Freeman speech and stood during the anthem and all that did was piss off both sides. People got pissed for kneeling (although they probably didn't realize they weren't kneeling during the anthem itself) and then people got pissed they weren't kneeling during the anthem for "not being supportive enough."

We are living in a "compromise makes you evil" era.
