A lot of people have been asking for this thread, so I figured I'd make it.

What is "Art Twitter"?
Art Twitter is a name given to the large subcommunity of Twitter dedicated to sharing and discussing various works of art. It has more presence in fandoms, especially internet-famous ones.

So what's so bad about it?
Most drama and discourse on Twitter is perpetuated by woke (usually western) artists and their followers. These people make up the larger part of Art Twitter, and are the reason for it's bad reputation. Whether it be social/political problems, cancelling, or general MATI, many creators feel the need to contribute to these happenings, usually embarrassing themselves in the process.

- Acts like NFTs are the end of the world and thinks anyone who sells NFTs are Aloysius O'Hare from the Lorax

- Constantly spamming their ko-fi pages so they can buy anime figurines pay their bills
- 'Fixes' other people's art and characters without permission

- Tweets about how exploitative capitalism is but is a K-Pop stan and/or plays gacha moba games with no self-awareness
- Retweets gofundme and ko-fi links but never donates
- Harassers mutuals if they're following anyone who is 'problematic'

Despite following art twitter drama fairly well there has to be a few more that are slipping my mind right now. The screencaps for Jay are in the DtM thread and can be copied over, and cumbinary has plenty of screencaps there too along with the Artist salt threads from the past few editions. Currently they're private on twitter.

To repeat what everyone else is saying it would be a good idea to have specific examples and screenshots of artists in the OP. I would also change the title of this thread from 'Art Twitter General' to either 'Woke Art Twitter General' or drop Twitter from the title and go with 'Woke E-Artist General'. Not every artist on Twitter is a 'woke' e-artist and these people exist off of Twitter too.

If it helps when I think of a 'woke' e-artist I think of Destiny, Succulentbud, TEACHlKO, jerichuwu, bimbopierrot / gothimbo, cum_binary, thumbcramps (before her twitter suspension) and Mannycorobo.

I don't have milk on any particular user because this applies to a huge part of Twitter in general---when BLM became huge last year and it was popular to blackwash fictional characters, I thought it was fine because I was convinced that black people just wanted to see themselves more in media. But it started to irritate me when they would blackwash non-latine brown characters, who are definitely underrepresented. They would argue that the characters haven't been erased if an artist gives them black features, but it's annoying when you see how much engagement an artist can get from hopping on the Blackwash Bandwagon™. It's so low-effort.

Also saw a black artist react to how they got a bunch of new followers after BLM like they felt dirty about it. BITCH JUST SHUT UP AND TAKE THE CLOUT.

For those who don't know about Archive of Our Own (AO3), its the greatest fanfic site that's been up since 2009. It has a MASSIVE userbase with LITERAL THOUSANDS OF STORIES, independent and fanworks alike, and guess what? It's been ad-free the entire time. This site is one of the last places where a big site is ad-free and can operate freely. Deleting it will get rid of a lot of talented, independent writer's work.

But no, donate to Jay's shitty Ko-Fi so she can sit on her fat ass and complain on twitter more.
