Real talk, a lot of the 'cancelling' of Asian artists reeks of racism. Like, the fact that it's usually Asian people that're harassed off of Twitter for having the audacity to draw a darker skinned character in different lighting or in a lighter color palette just... feels off to me.

They're colonizing.

They're invading non-USA artists' space and shoving their "knowledgable, first world tier" ideals and worldview down their throats. It's the pure entitlement that everyone should be familiar with North American/European race relations and social conflicts is why it comes off as really racist.

They're forcing a way of thinking and beliefs on a stranger who did nothing to warrant it. It's like crazy religious people who tell you you're going to hell and get tortured for eternity because you don't believe in the spooky holy ghost.

Pixiv used to be a nice haven to Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and other eastern artists until they translated the site to English and that's when it went to shit.

hard fucking agree, I used to use pixiv to find cool japanese art and now it's filled with shitty westerners who can't draw. All the Japanese people moved to twitter but that's a shithole, and hell, some of the artists for fandoms I enjoy are locking up their twitters and restricting their nsfw art for like 5 people.

I knew someone who pestered the fuck out of one of those japanese artists who hosted nsfw privately, and she got blocked as a result. That person later had a mental breakdown over it, I never knew the complete details as to what happened, but my guess was spamming follow requests or spamming google translated stuff in dms.

There's a huge decline in good art from japanese artists, and a huge rise of horrible woke art from American artists. I don't know what the hell is happening that made this shit popular. I remember a few years ago, people publicly made fun of those racebending fat hairy trans headcanons, but if you do that now, you get accused of "transphobia" and "racism". Like at that rate, leave those characters who aren't yours alone and just make your own ocs or w/e.

It also doesn’t help that because of this, Pixiv might go the way of DeviantArt. More proof that as degenerate as this sounds, you never hear of Rule34 artists doing anything like this.

I managed to find this info on Discord. Apparently, Iceofwaterflock/Canonkiller/Canon who is a they/them non-binary lesbian had some drama regarding artri.se and left it after getting into beef with one of the higher-ups. I believe they were mentioned a few times before on the Social Justice Warriors and DeviantART Horrors threads.

Surprised no one mentioned what happened to picrew when someone on tumblr gave an english guide to kinnies. At some point the hot page had only one japanese game on it.

The makers are usually like “hey guys!! *whole description in english only* *tumblr meme shirts like komaeda sans minecraft with phrases 90% of the japanese userbase won’t understand like “punch a terf”*. You’d think white saviors would be considerate of asian users on the site but they aren’t. Picrew wasn’t even infamous until tumblr users started running to it in droves and using it as their twitter pfp’s to make garbage takes. They literally ruin everything they touch with bad memes and queer community discourse.

i'm kinda bitter on this (also for the fact that my fav picrew got deleted, and while it survives in the wayback machine, it doesn't fully work). also, often, those western picrews come with simple clothes. everyone ends to looks too simple for my tastes.

I don't have the links or caps on hand, but there's been people calling out supposedly woke twitter users and tiktokers for essentially declaring that Japanese (and to an extent Chinese, Korean, and whatever other non-western fanbases that don't give a damn about social justice points) are deviants.

These people will say Japanese artists are freaks and pedophiles, talk about how bad the Japanese sides of fandoms are for Japanese media (which will also have these problematic elements they dislike, but they still consume them), and find no irony in how racist and puritanical they're being.

For people that preach about loving minorities and other cultures, they sure love to circlejerk over how superior their western ways are compared to those nasty foreigners.

Related to all of this, sometime last year, an Inuit artist cancelled Qantar, a Kazakh artist, for drawing Inuit facemarkings on fanart of Katara from Avatar the Last Airbender. I can't find the original drawing because Qantar deleted and reposted it without face markings but here's the thread. (archive.md)

The drawing (without face markings) that caused all this consternation. It's pretty ironic because the original artist was actually trying to be respectful by using Inuit references when drawing her Katara fanart.

Anyway in response Qantar deleted and changed her drawing, but she also started a tag on twitter for Commonwealth of Independence States (CIS) country artists—i.e. the old Soviet Union/Russian Empire—to draw avatar OCs in their own national costumes. (archive.md) They all knew it was bullshit, but the Inuit artist drummed up an entire harassment campaign of English speakers to bombard her in google translate Russian. Also it was kind of funny because the canceller was fine with ATLA existing despite it being made by two white men drawing on Inuit culture. Or as the Qantar put it (archive.md):

In the end it was transparently obvious that what the canceller was mad about was actually her own art not getting any exposure (archive.md):

Anyway, you can find the fanart at the hashtag #AvatarSNG. Here are some of them:

It's a little dorky, but I was reminded of the whole thing because they put together an Avatar Eurasia zine and people posted their submissions under this hashtag. Here's the instagram for the project. I think the project was actually a good version of the kind of cultural re-imaginings as fanart that usually get reposted here because they're ugly.

Also, IMO the Inuit artist went in guns a blazing because she thought Kazakhs were 1) white because they speak Russian and 2) not indigenous when actually if you know anything about the history of the Russian Empire and its Russification policies plus the USSR...... they actually do have a long history with having their culture suppressed and "generational wounds".

I remember seeing twitter drama that nobody should use this picrew because the og maker allegedly drew precure porn or stuff like that. Naturally, people got pissed and accused the maker of "uwu making child porn", but I never found any evidence or sources.

Wouldn't be surprised if twitter's agenda was to push out all of the Japanese people on picrew just to make it only have pride flag crap or some shit.

Seen that also and mainly with the "edgy" teen anime watchers.
