Reckful was a twitch streamer and World of Warcraft player who earned rank 1 for six seasons. He commited suicide this morning and the twitter thread was pretty chilling in a way. He had been diagnosed bipolar and had earlier spoken of suicide. Rather sure the tweets will speak for itself pulled from his and his gf. Girls gonna be fucked to find out she was proposed to 3 hours before he commited suicide.

The reaction to his death has been.... well I don't know what I expected.
  • 'We just need to force more positivity, ban all negativity'
  • 'Just shout down people that disagree with you if you think they are toxic'
  • *uses death to attempt to start a conservation on why this is all actually about racism*
  • 'People just need to be better; No social media isn't the problem'
All these 'solutions' to prevent more suicides I am hearing are just going to drive more people to suicide in the long term.

Well, when you have chats full of people being the most horrid individuals, telling him to kill himself, it's going to take it's toll.

I used to watch his streams quite a bit, and still tended to pull it up as background noise, even not having played WoW in years and years. I won't claim to be a friend because I only knew him through his stream, but it's a super unfortunate situation.

This year has not been kind, and the 'rona/quarantine is bringing out the worst. We're not meant to be isolated to such a degree, and it undoubtedly is not good for your mental health if you were fine before. But to have issues in the first place? It's pushing them wildly out of control.

This is very true. This isolation has lead to a large increase in suicide and suicide ideation.

So he asked her to marry him then killed himself?

Did she turn him down? Or did people troll in response? The later tweets call her his ex-girlfriend, is that references to his death, or had they broken up already?

Did he just realize how cringe his asking her to marry him over twitter was and that pushed him over the edge? Is this the first confirmed instance of terminal cringe?

in the tweets he also says "i haven't seen her in 6 months"
so yeah i guess she had broken up with him quite a while ago, and he couldn't get over it

It was his ex, so being rejected is pretty much expected; but combined with the current culture it was probably shaping up to be a major scandal. Once he came off his manic high, he dropped like a rock.

Usually active couples don’t go six months without seeing each other.

unironically I think "do a flip" is a better anti-suicide message for most people.
