My point is the issue isn’t the color choices necessarily, but the way the reconstruction is rendered. The colorized version is incredibly overexposed with barely any lights or shadows (compared to the pic of the actual statue which is dramatically lit), and we obviously have other art/murals from that period that showed they weren’t total shit at painting.

I'm not saying that rendering looks good, just that it might more realistic than you think.

As someone with interest to stage make up I can tell you a stage can do alot of heave lifting. Something that looks absolutely overblown face to face can look just about enough from the audience. These statues by large were not meant to be looked at near in a good light so strong contrast might have been bigger plus than careful shading, let alone general realism. Fire and directional natural light can really liven up wise dull surfase. Plus they might have counted on normal dirt and wear to pring out shape after a while, these were after all long term investments.

I have a similar opinion on this shit but it's less the "amateurish-ness" of it and more the fact a lot of the expressiveness of the characters is lost in the remakes. A really good example of this is looking at the "extremely fucking pissed/murderous intent" type of character sprite expressions. The remakes like just seem to progressively chip away at the emotions given off by the sprite.

The remake ones look a lot less "KILL" and more "mildly annoyed" and it's mostly like this across the board. there's some extremely depressed looking sprites for the characters and those too got like progressively nerfed to just looking kinda sad instead of dead inside.

The original designs look fine, it's mainly the hyper-detailed shading on a simplistic character that makes it look janky as hell. It didn't fully click in my head till I saw the original concept art a while back. In the original concept art for this thing the character's don't have the weird detailed computer pilllowy gradient texturing all over them and they actually look solid. However, that computerized HD jank kinda lends to the vibe of "something is a bit wrong here" a spooky fucked up murder story with a kinda cutesy artstyle should probably evoke to a degree and there is a degree of charm in the general aesthetic.
I also found out there's a fucking fighting game spinoff series where the characters are pretty much 3d model versions of the og artstyle. They look like actual fucking ape escape characters when translated to 3d it's the funniest shit.

In the case of Evil Geniuses and Dignitas, at least they brought back part of their original logos in some sort of fashion, but why change it to something different if you were just going to change it back?

EA is having that series go all over the place, especially with its yearly cycle stage. Street racing to circuit racing to cinematic, action, simulation and scripted. And back again with reboots galore.

In my opinion, the 7th gen started horrible because of rushed development, changes in the racing genre and a lack of identity. It regained some footing with Shift and the Hot Pursuit reboot.

Then, 8th gen faltered all of that goodwill with always online DRM, bad writing and microtransactions.

They're still pandering with the East Asian crowd, it's not a real big surprise really, Koreans especially, will eat this shit up because they love over the top detailing even if it doesn't make sense.

I seen that someone brought up Tawna from Crash Bandicoot but they used the alternate universe version like a dumbass but in the remake she does have a redesign.

And it's really weird lookly like to the level of Space Jam 2's Lola Bunny

Side note: it's abit weird that even gave Alternate Tawn any ass cuz they completely removed all the sex appeal from the original Tawna.

But to be fair one could say that Coco is a redesigned Tawna after all she was like her replacement, context for anyone out of the loop Tawna was removed from future games (even if she showed up again in some DS game) because of how "sexy" she was, they made Coco as a kind of replacement for her.

So as an extra note I want to bring up how they debimbofied the "Trophy girls" in Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled.

Now it is true that originally looked like weird anime alien monsters but I still find it funny how they remove the sex appeal of them in act of trying to be appear not sexist or whatever but still kept the name "the trophy girls" lol.

It's pretty retarded how it's not okay to have big boobed women in media cuz it's sexist but it's completely fine to have buff men, I know women are more protected than men but still it's retarded.

Anyways on that note, I want to talk about something I actually care about and that is Crunch Bandicoot

So I grew up with the Wrath of Cortex now it's not the best game I'll admit that but I really liked the idea of Crunch Bandicoot.

He was everything that Crash was meant to be aka a hulking buff monster of destruction, he didn't have too much characterization other than his hatred for Crash but I still think the ending cutscene of that game was great, it probably stemmed from the voice actor's great delivery.

Now Crunch has had the Knuckles treatment of flanderization where they turned him into a big meat head or Mr. T for some reason but this hasn't only affected his character but also his design(s).

Note: yes I know Nitro Fueled is like a mix between Team Racing and Nitro Kart hence the name but I still think the design is shit.

Crunch sadly had the same fate of Krystal from Star Fox where future developers just didn't know what to do with him which is a shame cuz he had/has alot of potential.

Like Alternate Tawn is cool and all but I don't think she'll make a interesting third/fourth member cuz she's just from another universe, Crunch on the other hand has the super cool idea of him being what Crash was meant to be.
