I've read quite about about trannies (including the highly-to-be recommended book The Book Who Would be Queen). 10% of trannies are gay boys who find life easier as women, and they tend to be very feminine little boys that become quite convincing women. The remaining 90% are called autogynephiliac transsexuals, who are quite stereotypically masculine quite quite stereotypically masculine hobbies and occupations but find it extremely arousing to imagine themselves as women. It's a fetish; but since they're no more feminine than any other man they look absurd in the attempt. Hence, the lolcows we're all familiar with.
