Would you sell your citizenship/passport? For how much? And which one would you get instead? -

I reckon a lot of westerners here would perish the thought of parting with their citizenship. But hypothetically, if you could sell your citizenship to the highest bidder, preferably some third or second-worlder with a net worth in six or seven figures, you could probably make a sizable fortune doing so. This would be especially appealing for poor people, with the caveat that you would not be able to regain and sell the same citizenship again.

I don't really have a good passport on me, and I can't imagine anyone buying mine other than the minority of travelers obsessed with exploring my country, and they don't have much money to begin with, comparatively speaking. But if I could choose a different passport I'd go with Japan. They can go to most countries in the world and their passport doesn't show one's place of birth.

I've never met anyone who'd give up an EU passport. I wouldn't.
I know the Canadian investor Visa used to be among the more interesting ones for people expecting a collapse, but it has changed in the past few years.

Am I left stateless as a result or do I have to trade for the buyer’s passport? I’m not sure which is likely worse. That said, in the US anyway, getting a passport back could be relatively easy if you have family in the country. Simply sell your existing passport, apply for a family-related green card, and boom back in the country.

You would have the option to do either. The latter would happen if the money wasn't enough to buy a second passport or if the seller intended to do something else with the proceeds. I do believe there are plenty of people who'd pay substantially more for a US/EU member passport than they would one from St Kitts and Nevis, so the amount of proceeds would probably be enough to buy a second passport.

I added that caveat so there wouldn't be an industry of people selling their citizenship, naturalizing in the country of said sold citizenship, and then selling the same one again. I could see them having a special status that let's them live in their country, but prevents them from going through the process again or just denied naturalization if the grounds aren't anything else.

Anyone with a decent amount of money can easily get into the USA if they wanted to, without buying my citizenship, so moot point.

If I was a richie, I'd buy Danish I think, or whatever Euro country has the highest standard of living, and isn't too nogged down yet. Yeah they have some of course but in tolerable amounts.
