Would Zak Starkey be a good drummer for Rush's (potential) R50 Tour? -

As many Rush fans know, R50 is less than 5 years away. As many Rush fans also know Neil Peart has retired from drumming and has said he has no interest in touring. This got me thinking: Would Zak Starkey (Ringo's son and current drummer of The Who) be a good replacement for Neil should Alex and Geddy decide to a tour for R50? Or should they go with someone else?

A trio like that, you remove one member and it's not quite the same. Peart's been too key a part of their sound for too long. Just let them enjoy retirement.
Yeah. There are some bands where the lineup changes constantly barring one or two members but the band sounds just as good over it's entire history because that one or those two members are the members most integral to the band's sound, evolution and chemistry. Meanwhile, there are some where if you remove one member, it's a completely different band because the band is so tightly knit together and each person in the band is integral to the band itself. Rush is definitely one of the latter type of bands. Since Peart has retired, the band is effectively dead. A similar thing happened with Type O Negative after Peter Steele's death in 2010. You really can't replace people in that sort of band. Not only would it be a disservice to the sound of the band, it would be a disservice to the relationships that led to that amazing sound and the person(s) that made the band what it was.
