Writing to/finding Pen Pals -

I've always really enjoyed writing to people. When I was a kid I had a few pen pals and as an adult I've had a few longstanding email only friends in other countries. I've found that writing is probably my favorite way to communicate with people. I've really wanted to find some new pen pals to exchange letter with (and also some stationery gifts here and there) but I have no idea how to do it. I've done a bit of research and found that some people like to use Instagram to find other people looking for pen pals but I don't have Instagram. I watched some pen pal videos on YouTube and the creator said to use the comments section as a way to find people to write to but almost all of them were like 14 and said stuff like "I don't know how to do this without my parents finding out!" so that's not an option lol. I wouldn't mind writing to someone in my own country but I think writing to people in other countries would be really interesting as well. I also know I'd need to get a PO box for safety reasons.

Has anyone here tried to find a pen pal recently and if so, how did you do it? Do you have any recommendations or suggestions?

The closest things to pen pals nowadays is the Internet. Find a community, meet and interact with people, and take that risk.

I have an email-pal, if that counts. I found an email floating around on that old anonymous pixel website called 'Space Email'. It's honestly quite fun.

Get a Kik account and then go to the hookups board of 4chan. Now all you have to do is put that you're a female 20 something year old looking to chat then link the Kik. Delete the dick pic senders and boom you have a legion of thirsty losers willing to talk for hours with you.

Okay, a few updates - I've been looking around on a few pen pal sites/boards to see if I can find people to write to. So far no one wants to be my pen pal because I don't use any social media :/ gonna keep looking. Seems a little silly to me to "verify" a person that way because people make catfish profiles all the time *shrug

I'd be interested in writing to different people, problem is after a few letters, you stop hearing from them. Maybe I'm boring, maybe they're boring, but it always seems to fizzle out. Best of luck with your pen pal project.

And I'll echo it's probably not such a good idea trying to make friends IRL with people here. Slight powerlevel: I tried that and the person turned out to be someone I can't see myself ever being friends with

Write to me, my email is in the hack dump.

I did this pen-pal thing several times (with people I met elsewhere - one guy overheard me talking politics on a bus and found me online), it fizzled because the correspondent was a faggot or "couldn't keep up with my English" (meaning, theirs sucked) and felt small in the pants or both. I love longhand writing, too (and have a pen and ink collection) but never tried paper letters, and these days paper letter sites seem to be focused more on decorations than content. My essay on mid 19th century literary critique can't compete with sparkling etsy stickers and 7 types of washi tape.

honestly, with technological advances i wouldn't mind getting email-pals, where we just email each other details about whats going on in our life, (like weekly) maybe without including actual names so we keep the mystery of who the other pal actually is. too bad these days u can just google the persons name and it'll most likely come up

Used one website that let you chat with people to decide if you wanted to write to them and that went...no where. So I'm trying another similar site now
