China will seize their early end quarantine and became the number one superpower, and declare war on Taiwan, or Japan, or Hong Kong, or India, or Tibet which led to WWIII and end us all with fucking nukes.

To justify me spending all my life saving on fucking freeze-dried emergency food.
Nah. China gets its money from Westerners buying stuff. We don’t have any money to buy stuff right now. And you can bet that a lot of companies are going to be thinking heavily about locating all their manufacturing in one country. I don’t think we’ll see a huge return in manufacturing to the west, but we will see companies having factories spread out among multiple countries.

Even if they did, I do have to wonder, if they wouldn't be hit as hard as countries further north.
We'll never know how bad it really was in Africa, aside from the sudden sharp decrease in AIDS patients. They get epidemics all the time and their medical system, well it "exists". They won't be able to do largescale tests for quite a while. It will be interesting to see what happens since their police and footsoldiers are so corrupt quarantines and lockdowns are unenforceable. The virus will tear through Africa, kill a bunch of people with AIDS, the few elderly, and some random others, infect a metric fuckton of people, and then more or less die down thanks to herd immunity.

South Africa and the countries around it are fucked though. Botswana, Swaziland, and Lesotho have a quarter of their population infected with AIDS, and South Africa itself has 17% AIDS rate. This will kill a disproportionate amount of young people too who still had another 10+ years before the disease claimed them.

Here's something to watch:

Record-size hole opens in ozone layer above the Arctic

Rare hole is result of low temperatures in atmosphere and is expected to disappear

Stupid fucking climate activists want to reduce various countries to zero emissions. When we actually approach that number for the first time since the start of the industrial age, lowered temperatures diminish the ozone layer unpredictably with a potential harm to humans.

The impact of the WuFlu is primarily financial. These stupid fucking activists will be pushing for social justice policies when it comes to industry, incredibly important to push back and let them know science is not on their side.

You know I feel like the restaurant industry isn't going to have a giant boom once all this is said and done. I feel like you're going to see mainstream restaurants get a massive surge in diners because if you think about it, that's one of the biggest social spots that we never really had until it was gone. I wouldn't be shocked if restaurants had a surge in popularity after this.

Why don't African countries just not do the lockdowns and shit? A plague like this is nothing in Africa, and it'll clear out people with AIDS like nothing else thus cutting down the spread of that disease and causing long-term savings. The population loss just reduces overpopulation and they'll gain it all back and more in a few years anyway.

Or are they just expecting their people not to listen, bother, or care and just pay off the police who come to enforce it?

It's truly a mystery.

Agree. The winners are going to be chain restaurants (well, the owners of chain restaurants who usually run multiple chains) that used their sheer size to outlast the crisis. While there's some casualties already like the company which runs Logans (who were already in bad financial health), these restaurants have the size and assets to survive on people ordering takeout for the next 1-3 months (or god forbid more) much more than your independently owned restaurant.

The real advantage a small restaurant owner (or prospective owner) will have is the sheer number of places available for them to purchase and put their restaurant. The amount of closed restaurants is going to be so huge that it'll depress that sector of real estate. Rents will go down (very good for them) and it will be cheap to purchase your own place. Unfortunately, I think it will take longer for small restaurants to get back on their feet than the larger chains.

They've changed the rules for SBA loans to include sole proprietors, so now more businesses are eligible.

I was rejected for unemployment because I didn't make enough to qualify, but they sent me an unemployment debit card anyway...with zero dollars. Thanks?
Just keep filing and wait until the PUA comes through. Then there's the FPUC that adds $600 to the PUA amount. I've looked into it recently because I just requested a furlough and approved today (for very good reasons). Can file for that in my state starting for the week of the 21st but it's also retroactive. Just keep your eye on your state's UI page.

What are you trying to say? It reads like you're saying there won't be a boom, but then the last sentence says you expect a surge in popularity. I just don't get how this is meant to be read.

Spoke to friend over phone that manages rather large hotel in downtown about occupancy rates. They were talking three per cent with decrease in coming weeks. As with chain restaurants having enough market share and money to weather this out it will be the same with hospitality industry. I worry for these businesses with local ownership. Even the local franchises might tumble under.
