Obviously, in a situation like this there would be shortages of these goods eventually, but these peoples' actions have helped to accelerate the process and exacerbate the problem.

The fairly rapid response to this locust behavior was instituting item limits. While it sucks not to be able to buy toilet paper for a few days, especially if you actually ran out of it, you're not exactly going to die of it.

how has no one has pointed out that the agriculture industry is heavily subsidized? There isn't a way to have a stable food supply without subsidies, and most people would struggle to afford animal products without subsidies. It is already socialized to a pretty heavy degree.

I'm surprised that people aren't gardening more, honestly. The plague hit right at spring time.

I feel like bitching. If this isn't the right thread for it, sorry in advance.

If I hear one more person say "I was at the store buying this luxury item and I saw these other people in line buying their luxury items and I couldn't help thinking that they are the problem" then I'm gonna post about it on the internet like the lazy ass that I am.

Stop bitching that people being out is causing the illness to spread if you are also out ffs.

I'm also tired of hearing about how people going to the beach has doomed all of humanity. As long as they aren't clumping up in groups it's probably fine. They aren't going to coof into the ocean and spread it to the dolphins.

Seeds are in the stores. Zucchini are easy to grow and if you get at least one plant to produce then starving will no longer be an issue. Drowning in zucchini might be the new problem though. Same with okra and cherry tomatoes. Be careful out there.

Just got the garden started.

And hoarding? There have been some weird vids on the roomie's family facebook showing their post apocaylpse scores. In one, a relative showed off his stocked walk in pantries: one for food and one for booze. It's just surreal.

Pharmacies are reporting large numbers of requests and prescriptions for Hydroxychloroquine, a drug used for treating malaria, as the FDA tests the drug as a possible treatment for COVID-19.
Excerpt said:
“Our members are definitely seeing more demand for this medication and possibly some people trying to hoard the medication,” said Todd Brown, executive director of the Massachusetts Independent Pharmacists Association.

According to Brown, it appears the hoarders include doctors who are writing prescriptions for themselves or family members.

“Pharmacists are seeing an increase in requests and prescriptions for them, in instances where it's not clear why the patient needs it at this time,” he said.

During Trump's recent press conference, they ask for hoarders to either sell their items to the public or sell them to the government. If they refuse, then they're "going to come for you.”

Those of us who already garden are doing so already. I doubt it enters the minds of most others.

There's a difference between keeping an adequate supply of food, sanitizing products, toilet paper, etc. and what these douchebags are doing. Sensible people keep an adequate supply of necessities on hand at all times in case of an extended disruption in supply, and thus don't need to panic buy and hoard shit the moment something bad happens.
I bought a crap ton of food the week before, not thinking about it. There was just so many discounts l that I just had to. It makes it easier to freeze it all and thaw what you need that way. I'm a hermit by nature so, less social interaction the best. And I normally only buy food ever 4-5 weeks anyway. I dont eat out, I just wait till I'm close to zero food as possible.

I really only went out the week of the panic out of pure curiosity.

Let them pull this shit. Costco isn't allowing tp return once this blows over. I hope they all enjoy eating nothing but spam and canned green beans for the next three years.

I also suspect that there's going to be a lot of bartering going on.

Good luck getting that without a prescription!

I understand that the current "shortage" is because hospitals are ordering extra so they will have it on hand if they need it.

When the first case showed up in my part of the world, I started doing research to see if there was any evidence for an effective treatment for coronavirus. I found by reading Chinese and Thai sources that there were three drugs that anecdotally showed some evidence of efficacy: Kaletra, which is a combination HIV drug, Tamiflu, and Chloroquine. The first two required a prescription where I live, but Chloroquine didn't, and since malaria is endemic here, I didn't have too much trouble finding some. Had to check a few different pharmacies, but it was there. I bought enough for two courses of treatment, one for me, one for my girlfriend. There were at least 25 boxes of the stuff on the shelf.

Thought the next day I would go back and get two more courses of treatment for vulnerable relatives in the US and send it up there. It was all gone. The clerk said that someone came in and not only bought all that was displayed on the shelf, they bought the other 50 boxes that they had in stock. Anyone who would do that shit with, I'm sure, the intent to resell it at a profit is a horrible person who I sincerely hope gets robbed by the people they are trying to gouge. And given that this is South America, that's a very real possibility.

I bought a couple thousand rounds of ammo that count?

On a related note, the online ammo seller I use still had stock and delivered some to me late last week. They're currently out of most pistol calibers like 9mm and .380 ACP, but still have rifle calibers (.308, 30-06, etc) and shotgun shells.

Is there anyone here who DID stockpile (AKA hoard) and is willing to admit it?

I'm a prepper and I've been "stockpiling" for 15+ years, so I am not contributing to the corona-induced shortage, as all my supplies were purchased over the course of more than a decade.

I have zero apologies and zero sympathy for those who are mad at preppers.

You all had three months to prepare; You want to punish people for having more brain cells than you did and actually stocking up for the long term.
I'd be willing to bet everyone reeing in this thread are the same people who were trolling and making fun of prepper spergs in the coronavirus thread a month ago. I guess ya dun goofed.
