Poland closes the day with 1221 cases (+170) and 16 deaths. And since today was all about the first parliament session since the outbreak, here's one of the MPs demonstrating how not to wear a mask.
Gotta love the MPs who apparently only went there to post their masked selfies on Twitter and Instagram. The upcoming online sessions should be fun though. Completely unremarkable day otherwise, except I hear supplies purchased from China are already flowing in. I hope we're not going to use their shitty tests though.

Doctors call for a tobacco and vaping ban in New York during the COVID-19 pandemic
The New York State Academy of Family Physicians is calling for a ban of all tobacco and vaping products statewide due to the increased risk of COVID-19 in those who use tobacco.
Based on a study by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, one factor that influences the progression of COVID-19 is a person’s history of smoking.
The study suggests that “patients who use tobacco are 14 times as likely to have COVID-19 progression.” According to The National Institute of Drug Abuse, this is because the coronavirus attacks the lungs, and people who vape or smoke tobacco are more susceptible to the virus becoming a serious threat.
“Now more than ever, it is critical for the State and medical community to take actions to prevent our youth from ever using these highly addictive, deadly products and to help our patients to reduce their risks through FDA-approved cessation and telehealth during this pandemic,” says Barbara Keber, president of the group that represents more than 6,000 family physicians and medical students in New York.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has taken previous measures to cut down on vaping. In late February, Cuomo launched campaigns to ban flavored tobacco products, announced a texting program for those who want to quit vaping, launched a website with non-smoking resources and created hashtag #NoVapeNY.
“New York is leading the nation in confronting this new and deadly epidemic,” says Cuomo.
The NYSAFP has supported the ongoing legislation to end the sale of flavored tobacco products and calls on Cuomo to consider their proposal in the budget.
“Bold, swift actions must be taken to protect our residents and we must follow the science which supports our call for a ban,” says Keber.
Wtf are these people thinking? Yeah, let's just immediately ban all smoking, what could go wrong...

Germany who only counts deaths that were likely directly caused by the wuhan virus sees currently a slight rise in deaths from 30 to about 50 a day in the last few days and will tomorrow pass the "200 deaths" mark. Some states have actually seen a fall in new cases and Germanys most populous state NRW (and one of the most densely packed places in Europe and the world) actually was overtaken by bavaria in both amount of confirmed infections and density. This state alone has 53 deaths. According to Johns Hopkins statistics page (which somehow coordinates differently than Robert Koch and has some numbers earlier, but is in my experience not always accurate) RKI will report 239 deaths tomorrow, which again would be an increase by about 50.

Interestingly enough, germany has overtaken france in active cases and is now closing in on Spain. We do a lot more testing and from the confirmed cases, actually only a small amount is old people, the most are in the 35-59 age range. We've been in lockdown since Monday now so it's still a bit early to tell if the numbers will not vastly increase in the end but our hospitals still have free capacities and many states have started to take in cases from france and italy. My very personal and not at all scientific or even fact-grounded opinion is that Germany is how many countries would look like if they both would only count the corona-related deaths and also would test more. We really need a lot more testing everywhere. I have the completely personal and non-fact-backed feeling there are a lot of infected people in europe right now nobody is tracking and who might actually be perfectly healthy in two weeks.

Untrue. There are testing places all over the county. You can't get tested unless you are showing serious symptoms.
I guess the other part of my conditional sentence must still be true though, you would think the people in places like El Sereno or Downey would be getting hit pretty hard. especially with how many asians brought up houses in a lot of these middle class areas.

Earlier in the thread the phone thing was brought up saying it was 8million, this video says 21 million.
Chinamen generally have dual-SIM phones. Workers who moved out of their home province to work often had a second SIM, generally from a different provider, to optimize between calling rates for the two regions and the deals available with the second provider. In that position, all providers could (and did) lose subscribers without the actual number of Chinese mobile users going down at all.

Presently they don't need the second SIM, so they're dropping those plans to save money. I would expect those numbers to rebound over the next couple months, dependant on the amount of friction against movement between provinces and whether Chinese mobile providers attempt to keep their customers sticking to their service alone rather than getting their second SIM from another provider by offering deals.

China isn't lying because of their race. They're lying because of their ideology. They're communists and lying is what communists do. Race has nothing to do with it.
Oh shit no, it's a culture that existed long before the commies took over. Socialist revolutions - any revolutions, really - only become a mirror of the thing that they're revolting against.

Chinese culture has thrived on trickery, deception, grift, and theft for as long as it has existed. Look at any part of their history, you'll find the same shit in various forms. Their entire culture is built on the idea that they're owed everything by the world, and if the world won't give it voluntarily, then they'll steal it, or trick their way into getting it, because they deserve it.

Are we all in agreement that China is faking the numbers? I said that to my dad today and he called me racist.
From the start the Chinese in Wuhan were faking the numbers they gave to the Chinese in Beijing. You think the Chinese in Beijing aren't going to fake the numbers even more?
I'm sorry to be the one to tell you that your dad may have been brainwashed at some point into exceptionality.

UPS call centre's are melting down. FedEx is no better, at least Amazon's customer service is on point still.

Over 1 hour now trying to get a live person on UPS. I'm still on hold. I had to figure out how to get past the fucking gatekeeper that is the electronic recording just to be put in queue to talk to a live person. Why? I need a package held at a local depot instead of being delivered.

Normally this would be a 15min call. 1 hour in, still on hold. I've been hung up on 6 times by their automated system. If you don't have a tracking number (had to hunt that fucker down), you will be hung up on. I had to charge my phone just to make sure it didn't die.

I bet I will be told "Until the driver has the package we won't be able to hold it!" bullshit to which I will tell them there's a goddamn flag in their system to add a fucking note when/if it happens that does NOT override the goddamn delivery status.

I've spoken with other folks and they are facing the same frustration. Packages being left 6 from door, sometimes at the edge of a gate, missing packages, etc. Another reason why we aren't shipping shit to people and they gotta come in because unless you are ESSENTIAL WORKER! your packages will be delivered...meh whenever. The drivers are taking no chances and wearing gloves. Hell the post office worker said "Can I sign for you?" instead of me touching her pad. Unreal.

At the top of their site it says "Due to Corona-19 virus wait times will be longer than blahblahbhlahblahblhablhalh..."

Like any other call center I can only imagine they have a skeleton staff that is in the building to answer calls, why can't they work remotely like other call centers? Oh dear reader UPS like other greedy corps farmed the fuck out of this low paying job to the street shitters in Punjabistan who are now under fucking quarantine and lack even the remotest of Work From Home capacity considering their Infrastructure cabling looks like Cthulu vomitted spaghetti into a spider web. Indians? Work from home? From their 1 room hole? No. They need to come into the office to answer calls because the office has the infrastructure to which they are now BANNED from coming into the Air conditioned paradise that is TaTa call centers.

The rampant outsourcing has fucked so many many companies that I now have to laugh while I weep being on hold for 1:h30m....

TLDR: Pray you get your shipping info right or you will be on hold for a long, long, long time.

It's so blatant. The governor has an agenda against vaping for some fucking reason and he's using COVID-19 as an excuse to try and get it b&

New Delhi: Criminal gangs in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro, that have long held sway over the city’s favelas (slums), are enforcing their own lockdown to curtail the spread of coronavirus, even as President Jair Bolsonaro has dismissed the pandemic as a “little flu”.

According to Brazilian media, threatening messages are being circulated in the slums of Rio de Janeiro by gangsters who have said they will “teach people to respect” an 8 pm shutdown.

One of the messages by a gang read: “Attention all residents of Rio das Pedras, Muzema and Tijuguinhal! Curfew from 8 pm…Whoever is seen on the street after this time will learn to respect the next one.”

Another read, “We want the best for the population. If the government does not have the capacity to fix it, organised crime will solve it.”

As of Tuesday, Brazil’s health ministry reported over 2,201 confirmed cases of coronavirus. Governor Wilson Witzel has warned that the state’s public health system was likely to “collapse” in the next 15 days.

‘Better to stay home doing nothing’
Apart from gangs and militias imposing curfews, ‘baile funk’ (a form of modern Brazilian music) dance parties have also been called off. “Open-air drug markets” have similarly been closed.

Rio-based newspaper Extra has reported that in the ‘City of God’ — a sprawling complex of slums made famous in 2002 by a movie of the same name — gangsters were driving around, blaring loud messages to residents.

One of their messages said: “We’re imposing a curfew because nobody is taking this seriously. Whoever is in the street screwing around or going for a walk will receive a corrective and serve as an example. Better to stay home doing nothing. The message has been given.”

‘Disease of the rich’
People in Brazil have dubbed the outbreak as a “disease of the rich“. They believe the viral illness has come from the country’s rich populace who had returned from Europe. It is now feared that the outbreak has reached poorer communities who have limited access to healthcare facilities.

Paulo Buss, director of the Center for International Relations, a public health research center at Fiocruz, said, “The irony is that the disease was brought to Brazil by plane, by the rich, but it is among the poor that it will explode.”

Vania Ribeiro, vice-president of the Local Neighbourhood Association, also said, “Here people are very afraid. The nearest health centre is the same that the elderly people in Copacabana and tourists from all over the world use.”

‘Terrible’ basic sanitation
A 27-year-old resident of the ‘City of God’, Jefferson Maia, has been quoted by Reuters as saying that the country’s basic sanitation is in a “terrible” condition.

“Sometimes, we don’t even have water to wash our hands properly. We are very concerned with the coronavirus issue,” said Maia.

According to Edmilson Migowski, an infectologist at Rio’s Federal University, the favelas are expected to pose a major public health challenge in the coming days.

“The entry of coronavirus into denser, less planned and less culturally assisted areas could be devastating. Where water, soap and detergent are lacking, it will be difficult to stop the spread,” Migowski said.
Imagine being so shitty at handling an international crisis/pandemic that fucking gangs and drug dealers have to impose measures that will hopefully slow down the transmission of the disease. That's Bolsonaro.

I feel really bad for Brazilians, they have a moron as a president who refuses to take the pandemic seriously. Given how much of the population lacks access to basic sanitation, COVID-19 could spread like wildfire.

So. Pre-sleep recap. After the union's press release the autonomy junta... "found" ejem some free tests to throw our way. Not nearly enough but enough to estimate what's coming. Seems outbreak's contained with a total of 4 ICU cases and 50 positives. The army bleaching areas of the hospital and a bunch of workers preemptively sent homes. So, buncha wounded, no losses, our boat can take a lot worse than this. We have dressed down the Inspectors. They literally deliberately avoided union members and known affiliates then sent everyone else to work the fucking bastards. Apparently they were already doing it before, which I find repugnant but at least not as incredible as doing it DURING A PANDEMIC. Seriously this outbreak was caused by the fucking medical inspectors, heads should fucking roll.

But nevermind that. Most of the country is doing well enough and now that we had enough aid to count our damages we are in... acceptable conditions. Given the circumstances at least. We still got no real masks, we decided to roll out the cloth props that were donated despite how fucking useless they are. But people seem happy enough, and we only need to hold while the pymes ramp up and madrid is at peak, once that's done shit'll be easier. I just hope we don't have another outbreak first. We're really on the ropes honestly.

Hey. Here's a meme:

*Coronavirus strikes.*

France: *prisons revolt*

French Government: Quick, we must surrender before anyone gets hurt!

USA: *nothing actually happens*

USA Government: Our cops are too scared due to corona! We must free the prisoners and legalize theft and home invasion!

Spain: *prisoners threaten revolt, due to lack of moroccan drugs mafias start shooting each other and get desperate.*

Spanish government:
I wouldn't recommend shooting at me, because your gun goes pew pew but my fucking gun goes brrr

Who would have thought muh land of the gun, home of the bloated military spending USA would have less teeth that our fucking small defensive army, low criminality, peaceful nannystate.

Pots and pans being banged outside right now. So we're copying Spain now apparently. Buncha sheep do whatever SocMedia tells them. <Grump>
Why you doin it though?
