Look at Raab's expression in this interview. He looks seriously worried. Even the cunty journo asking him stupid questions sounds spooked. This is apocalyptic.

It's fucking surreal and scary to have a world leader succumb to this disease. Not just asymptomatic, but full-on "needs to be in intensive care" levels of serious. Corona-chan spares no one.

I'm not a Brit and not a fan of Johnson's policies or beliefs, but I hope he pulls through. Nobody deserves COVID-19, it's a nasty bitch.

The real problem with Boris being in the ICU: he's had it for 10 days. It means we don't have a therapeutic regimen that halts progression of the disease.

The UK is going to ensure the best minds get together as far as the PM is concerned. If the best minds have no answer, this complicates a lot of other things, like opening the economy back up.

Let's pray for Boris. If someone can't come up with something, that's the future of the Western economy.
It appears he wasn't being treated with any therapeutic regimen at all, either because he refused it or it wasn't considered necessary. There's been no mention of him being given any treatment in the past.

My impression of the British is they are experts at keeping secrets, and would treat his medical care as a state secret.

If it's true, and he received no medicine, that would surprise me.

That's a good point. Still, you'd think they would have wanted to reassure the public that he was being given a certain minimum level of care versus just suddenly announcing he went into the ICU, right? The way they reacted to this overall was just incredibly bizarre from an American perspective.

Until a vaccine is found, strict social distancing measures may be our best hope of stopping the spread of COVID-19.
“That’s probably the one model that has the least risk from a health point of view, but obviously socially that would be quite difficult,” Frazer said.
“The alternative would perhaps be the Swedish model, where those people who are of an age where the chances of them getting seriously ill with the virus are very small, could perhaps be allowed to go back to work and socialise.
“But the people who are at high-risk and who have pre-existing conditions, they would have to practise at least social distancing and possibly social isolation.”

That sounds awfully like a dictatorship. This old twat thinks people will abide by having no life for over a year.
People will put his head on a pike long before them. No one is going to live like this into eternity.
The cost of these idiotic policies are already showing to be - rise in suicides, domestic violence, sexual assault, murder.
It also comes at the cost of major health issues - Cancer screening has been stopped, cancer patients being turned away from treatments, pathologists being told to stop regular work, go home and wait to be called up if they're "needed". Oh, but you'll be sad to know, that in Australia, another 95 year old died in a nursing home of the coof today.
We're at 41 deaths. All over the age of 50 - but most in the 80-90s. It's cost us billions. I know I'm sure relieved! Maybe a 92 year old will be spared the coof and live for another 2 months before they die of something else!

*EDIT : Frazer is the HPV vaccine nut. He dismisses anyone who's died after getting it as "Sheer coincidence".

Oh, what's this?

Nurses being laid off and not asked to help? I thought this was a crisis? Is it not a crisis? But I was told that there'd be bzillions in hospital by now.

David Clark will continue as New Zealand’s Health Minister, despite labelling himself an ‘idiot” and offering to resign his position for a second blunder during the country’s lockdown.
Days after Dr Clark was caught mountain-biking near his Dunedin home in spite of the lockdown, he revealed he also took his family on a coastal walk on the previous weekend.
The first charge breaks the lockdown’s rules as a potentially dangerous activity, the second does so as the walk was not local; it was 20 kilometres away.
Well, that's a relief. Mountain biking is a very dangerous activity. I'm glad that Horseface has saved her shithole from impending doom!

He's trying to figure out how to turn this pandemic to his advantage. Expect even more predatory lending as "aid" and insane territorial claims.

I think the lowest-hanging territorial fruit is the South China Seas, coming from the news that they sunk a Vietnamese fishing ship.

Not really something that will alarm the international public, and really more of what they’re doing already.

Goddamn, I ran the numbers again today and my family's small business is up 47% in revenue year over year over the last three weeks since all non-essential businesses were shut down in the state. We're technically agriculture, which was exempt from the order, yet our closest local competitor has decided to remain completely shut down. Literally zero blowback from any shoppers for staying open. Actually the exact opposite. Plus we're doing it with half the staff and Trumpbux are going to cover our payroll for the next three months. Based WuFlu :story:

Firing him now would be more of a shitshow than it would firing his ass and prosecuting him once things return to normal, but other than that Labour isn't going anywhere come November as Simon Bridges is somehow even more of a fuckhead than Ardern.

On a side note I've been thinking, do you think this'll fuck up the Liberals over your way? Even more importantly do you think this'll be the thing that finishes Clive Palmer.

Just today, in my small (>10k) city in northern Wisconsin, I saw multiple vehicles with plates from California, Georgia, and Texas. No doubt these are people with second (lake) homes.

And in the last few days, we have recieved word of 3 confirmed cases.
If you see California plates, you should wrap the vehicle in hazard tape and block the road going to the vehicle.

Los Angeles resident here.

We have not left the house since the Saturday after the school closures, except for mission essential with an n-95 respirator. Children have not left the neighborhood, or gotten out of the car. That is because we do not want to get this virus, and we do not want to spread it. This is one of the most densely populated places on the planet, and the Governor is not joking around.

Taking a road trip across the country is UNTHINKABLE. They have found that COVID is very, very contagious. All it takes is a sneeze, cough, booger or slightest piece of fecal matter from behind the finger nail, from a fast food worker between California and Wisconsin, to spread this shit like wildfire in your town.

Unfortunately without intending to, people shed their cooties constantly. That is what underlies these extreme measures, to begin with. 95% of the time, we have immunities to whatever flies out of the next guy's nose or mouth, or what is on his hands.

Honestly the best thing you can do right now, is suck it up and stay put.

Think of it this way: if you do get COVID, would you rather go to some unknown place for treatment, or to a hospital in your own community, that you are familiar with?

Sorry this upsets me. It is kind of embarrassing that some people from my state are so inconsiderate.

You've never spoken to a real British person, have you? We're fucking terrible at keeping things to ourselves, we love gossiping. The only reason I'm not spreading the latest info I'm getting from friends and family (I know several NHS staff) is because you fuckers could probably dox me if I did.

Edit: But here's some shit I've heard, because blue-balling like that is uncool. Apparently NHS staff have been told to stop using PPE purchased outside of the NHS, no matter how effective it is, and can only use PPE supplied by the NHS, which they're running into supply issues with.

Edit 2: Fuck's sake, I'm terrible at infosec and keeping secrets.

Alright since I've had the pleasure of working in the ED again (yay)

First you have people whose cc is atypical of uris, which is why I think so many front-line workers are getting infected. Syncope head lac, tingling in extremities, fatigue, all symptoms of hypoxia w/o SOB or other s/s of uris. So no cough or runny nose or anything that might scream droplet precautions.

There was one paper I read where SARS-CoV-2 could potentially knock out heme from erythrocytes, which might be the underlying cause of hypoxic symptoms w/o SOB.

Second these patients decompensate quick as fuck and need flO2 to eventual vent. I've seen this rarely with viral pneumonia rt influenza but it's actually pretty fucking common with COVID-19 pts. It's honestly pretty fucking scary.
Hey what is your opinion- or anybody's for that matter:

Once you have reached the vent-phase, what are the chances of leaving the hospital horizontally, rather than vertically?

In other words, what are your chances of making it out alive, if you are placed on a vent?

And what do they do to you if you are in the hospital, but not on a vent?

Over 50% of people placed on a ventilator die.

Last time I looked at statistics:
~80% chance of being fine
~15% chance of needing hospital care
~5% chance of requiring a ventilator

~70-80% mortality rate if it gets serious enough to require ventilation
And what do they do to you if you are in the hospital, but not on a vent?
CPAP (the oxygen mask/canula) to keep your blood O2 levels up, and keep a close eye on you in case you need intubation and be thrown under a ventilator.

I hope you're not asking because of personal experience. ❤

Meanwhile, a little further north...

Others have said how our retarded state has been pretty on the ball with regards to the response to this, and I actually agree. But I'm still bracing for a surge of cases here in a week or two and the accompanying 'minorities hardest hit' articles.

The local park is open, but all outdoor amenities (except tennis courts) are closed. The "community"* center is also closed.

Aside from toilet paper and paper towels, the panic buying seems to finally be dying down. I can actually find stuff like eggs and noodles. There's still people acting like hypochondriacs though.
