It's possible to have full custody and still receive child support. Paying child support doesn't buy you any time with the child.

I had to look it up because I'd never heard the term and this says the opposite:

I should also add that due to Ethan's weight and lifestyle, he would be ineligible for insurance when they give him a short medical exam and bluntly tell him, "lose the pounds".

I personally wouldn't see why Matthew Vickers wouldn't want this money. If Gunt can pay, great. Kids are expensive and Lord knows his daughter isn't responsible enough to raise a child on her own. If Gunt can't pay, Matthew will have one more means to fuck with him. That could mean another stint behind bars if he gets delinquent enough on his payments.
