That security guard seemed to be tard wrangling the Yanivs more than guarding them. I would have loved to hear his thoughts at the dinner table that night.

eta: I laughed at how his hands were in his pockets most of the time until escorting the Yanivs to their car.

No offence to the bloke but is this the calibre of body guard the yanivs use now?

He once claimed he was paying a thousand $$$ a day...now it seems all he can afford is a packet of crisps and a pint.

He's a security guard, not a body guard. They have no training or ability to go hands-on. Their job is to simply observe and report to police.

Which explains his hands in his pockets much of the time. I lol at that. So, what if someone tried to kick Johnny in his non-existent balls? What would that dude do to guard him? Fight with Johnny for the alarm pendant and furiously push the button?? That just seems so fitting for our impotent Johnathan.

I wonder how much (and if) that cost Mama Yaniv?

How many people in Canada know him? In the US, Chris was really popular, like 10 years ago. When I mentioned him in other communities, there are always some people who know him.

Chris got into newspapers and TV a few times, like when Godbear made him change his name in the 80s, or when he was the oldest <<kid>> (manchild) still playing Pokémon at the GamePlace around 2000, and that article about "the strangest fandom in the world" in an established East Coast newspaper like a few years ago. The house fire at 14BC even made it into a local TV station. Yet, all those were only small local media.

OK or maybe I'm just racist cause I assume since Yaniv's Canadian everyone in British Columbia just to be aware of him.

Yaniv is well-known in the lower mainland. If you meet a normal person who has internet, 50/50 they’ve heard of him. A lot of people have met him too. Greater Vancouver is a very small pond so if you have an overlapping community with Yaniv you’re at most a couple of degrees separation from him. Plus the ball-waxing saga got a lot of press.

He's not famous at all.

Infamous in certain circles and locally around his neighborhood in the Langley area, but I'd say less then 1% of B.C.'s population (roughly 5 million people) would recognize the name at all.

@Hyacinth Bucket (Bouquet), Vancouver is not a small pond at all. the GVRD contains over 2 million people alone, think about those numbers. While almost everyone is online, a TINY fraction will be in those communities online where JY would be known.

Even among local Reddit users or court followers etc, 10% at most of those communities in the lower mainland might recognize the name, though more might remember the 'ballwax saga' but not the name or details. 50/50 is such a massive overestimation as to be rediculous.

They may not know his name. But I'm pretty sure a much larger proportion of Canadian's have heard of the "Wax My Lady Balls" lunatic.

For a while there he was much more notorious and say, 40% of B.C. and 20% of Canada was aware of the 'wax my balls' case, but it was just one more blip on the nightly news for most people. The awareness dropped off almost immediately, to the point where I'd say 1%-2% of the population of the nation would go 'oh THAT freak!' if you said Jonny Yaniv to them.

Far less would recognize 'Jessica Simpson' as anything but the pop star of that name.

We have a mental bias here because we ALL know who JY is, so we get the impression most people do. Most people out of a few niche communities seriously don't.

I'm in the US and my boomer dad knows who Yaniv is. He just knew him as the freaky tranny who wants his balls waxed and didn't know about the pedophilia or violence or other parts of JY's personality. Yaniv is probably best known among people who consume right-wing news sources (even boomer shit like "look what this crazy liberal is demanding!") because during the ball-waxing saga he was held up globally as an example of troon extremism (and he's obviously someone the progressive left wants you to ignore). Compared to Chris who's just a legendary weirdo, Yaniv's aggression and freaky personality is appealing for clicks if you're some conservative media editor, especially since Yaniv has actually caused harm in the real world to more than just a bunch of Xbox and Sonic Boom displays, Michael Snyder, and a Gamestop employee.

I can vouch for the fact that Gen X/Boomer types who spend much time at all visiting conservative leaning blogs/news sites are quite likely to have read about Yaniv during the height of Ball-Waxing Mania. This freak is a walking talking embodiment of all of their worst predictions and fears re trannies and of course also counts as an argument against the "libs" generally. It continues to get play (I've seen several references to the assault charge/trial as well).

Whether we like it or not,* Captain Troon is in fact at least mid-moderate "famous" (infamous) these days.

*I would argue that it is well worth it. Hey, let him get his entry on wikipedia small price to pay for his eternal ruination.
