To some people, that they get to do this in public, means that they receive some kind of privilege due to their religion.

Sikhs were involved in a lot of violence in 1980s India, even killing the prime minister in 1984. They're just not associated with terrorism nowadays because they don't have anywhere near as many violent fundamentalists as Islam does, especially outside India.

Well, that's true to a POINT for Sikhs. Their faith is very much a 'forgive and educate over vengence' one, but they've also been genocided and fucked around enough that they've sprung some seriously militant militants, the more savage of which have fled to Canada, and there are a few that wouldn't hesitate to give JY that full frontal neutering he's been asking for if they caught him in a quiet corner somewhere.
Yeah it's messy tbh. And in Canada it has come up numerous times, in particular with events surrounding Jagmeet Singh, the current federal NDP leader. Here's an interesting article that touches on many of the issues.
Sikhs make up a pretty huge number of MPs in the parliament. They do well in law, science and industry and are basically getting the treatment that asians get in the US.
Of course, American Sikhs and Indians are also frowned upon. Lots of Indian politicians in the US will basically pretend to be Muslim by celebrating every Muslim holiday and ignoring every Hindi or Sikh holiday. Canada's conservative party has done a much better job at integrating Indians into their leadership and so you get alot of proudly Sikh/Hindu candidates. Most American Sikh/Hindi leaders are Dems who want victim points.
Canada's NDP is running a Sikh candidate and they literally have no chance of winning. He is viewed as a privileged Sikh boy (Keep in mind, he's competing with Trudeau, a white rich kid).
They're basically the new Jews or Asians. Too successful to be a good minority.
They also do a dogshit job at getting victimhood points. Alot of libs also hate on Filipinos for the same reason.
Khalistan sperging is seen as just that. Kinda why Sikhs aren't flocking in droves to the NDP and their Sikh leader who can't help himself.

I know theres a lot of misguided racism towards Sikhs. I remember a muslim worker getting to take a prayer break and getting paid for it and everyone wondering why they can't do it on their own break, and then ranting about other priviledges they assume the Sikhs have. Wrong brown person my guy.
But the Turban part that people get bent out of shape for is they get away without wearing helmets on motorcycles and try not to ever wear hardhats on construction sites. And its pretty lame when you get kicked off site if you don't have your safety gear, but all the drywallers(generally east indian) get away with a turban and runners because they can't find anyone to replace them.
I know a lot of people say if they get hurt its their own issue. The only problem is everyones Taxes pay for Medical care in Canada so if Mr.Singh takes a header on his bike and survives we're going to be paying to keep him alive on a feeding tube. Where a helmet might of kept him from becoming a vegetable and we might have had to just pay for his rehabilitation.
Now there's something that actually be interesting to see play out in court.

Sikhs like all cults (all religions are cults) have their share of exceptionalism. They're getting out of OSHA and motorcycle requirements and airport security by saying literally that removing their doo-rag is literally the same as being told to take off their underwear in public same as their holy knife. It's still a fucking knife. They teach removing/displaying body hair is wrong for both sexes, but it appears asspat points are mainly for the males who insist on keeping ratty looking beards. They say everyone's equal at their langar dinners, but then they only prohibit eating animals butchered by halal methods (virtually identical to kocher).

this is basically my thinking as well. I wonder what there believes are about other jews success? Are they straight out jealous of others who have attained things they haven't(maybe due disability and related personality issues)? Sorry if this has been discussed before but do we know if JY is a practicing jew?

All local Langars I'm familiar with offer eggless vegetarian meals. I'm not familiar with any that offer meat, let alone all-meat-except-halal-meat.
In fact the local Indian restaurants that do serve meat usually have a separate halal menu.
There's also plenty of women here who wear turbans and grow out all their hair; bikini waxing ladies aside.
They can't wear a helmet over the turban? If it's too small, they could wear a larger helmet. Is it against their religion to not have the cloth on their head? Like couldn't the helmet act as the head covering? Couldn't they wear a type of helmet that covers more of the head, like a motorcycle helmet?

There are a bunch of helmet options for Sikhs now, and the original purpose of the turban was for battle...it can be wrapped around a hard shell helmet without a problem. I have worked with pretty devout Sikh men who wear ball caps over a cloth hair cover. It saves a lot of hassle, and they put their hard hats on after swapping out the cap. I've never been on a site where someone refused a hard hat, but I'm not in construction... I know compliance is a lot harder on that industry. Half the roofers can't be bothered to tie off in my province, so we pay for their idiocy quite often. Plus, we are cramming nomex cold weather balaclavas and hoods under there in winter...once you get used to that, the turban thing is a really dumb argument. You can definitely get one to fit under a hardhat. Likewise a hijab. For six months of the year EVERYONE wears a Nomex hijab FFS.
Many services (police, etc.) have a modified uniform. You can't wear a purple turban with your police uniform, you wear the police one. I think this is a good example of inclusion, tbh.
The knife thing has been tested and retested in Canadian Court, most workplaces accept a dull knife as fine if they have very strict rules on weapons. Mind you, it is totally acceptable in Canada to carry a folding knife or even wear a hunting knife in many places, so it's not like this is "special" outside the city.
In terms of forbidding Halal, I get that. The slaughter techniques are controversial, and for good reason. They could be sanctioned under animal cruelty if not for the exemption. Same with Kosher. The butchering requirements for both are very involved, and seem largely to serve the purpose of employing religious officials. For many smaller abbatoirs the cost of providing Halal and Kosher can't be offset by a cost increase...but it is significantly more costly to perform. Factory operations I'm not sure, but small producers are not taking in huge profits as it is. Unless they have a ready market, a large population essentially demanding kosher or Halal, it's not feasible.
