Canada's adoption program is run by social workers. They manage to screen out people who are excellent parents, in one of the most dehumanizing, offensive processes you can imagine.

It might be defensible, except that the foster and adoption social workers seem to have an almost super power ability to hand vulnerable children over to child molesters. Especially in BC.

Social workers in Canada are fed a steady diet of SJW throughout their schooling, and because of university "disability" accommodation requirements, a huge number of social work graduates are psychologically damaged individuals who SHOULD NOT be involved with vulnerable populations.

The social workers will help a person through the process or allow it to be bypassed on a whim. You're not supposed to be eligible if you have a some mental health conditions or other emotional instability... But if your assigned social worker chooses to ignore those things, you're in.

Social workers (some, obv not all, some are saints on earth) commonly seem to have a grudge against people with relatively normal upbringing, they seem to relish the power of being able to threaten removal of children for differences of opinion in child rearing.

Social workers have become the sole arbiter of parenting quality, and have the government-granted authority to enforce that opinion.

You might tolerate it, if they could publish an even reasonable record. But nope. They steal children and hand them to pedophiles routinely.

I don't know a parent who isn't terrified of social workers.

Any and all criminal activities can apparently be forgiven by the social worker. I'm not clear on how, as soon as I start to hear one of these stories (a few times at new parent events, I was treated to conversations like "I shouldn't have been approved but...") the rage sounds fill my ears and my vision starts to go funny. The abuse of power by social workers is DISGUSTING. I have managed to glean that there are "acceptable" answers to all of the questions and you just need to know what they are. Much the way kids on Tumblr learn what to say to gender counsellors to "win" hormones and support for legal hormones. One of the people who discussed this with me WAS a social worker, and I knew her personally. I would not have sold her a pet. Let's leave it there.

You also have to remember that most sane people (literally, only saints among us and the insane) will not take on some of the tragedies in the system. Children under 10 who have been raped multiple times, whose parents are in jail. The kids are a disaster. The foster families do their best, then have to give the kids back to the parents, whenever they make it out.

State sponsored adoptions require you to be on continuous alert for years, with less than 24 hours to accept and pick up the child. Drug addicted babies, fetal alcohol syndrome, the promise of future custody battles not only with the "declared mentally unfit" parent and/or the First Nations Band down the road, who may decide they want the child back, if it has FN ancestry. You are forced to bring the child to special adoption doctors, so that you are fully monitored by the state (they still can't seem to catch the child molesters and abusers, but it sure sounds like a good idea) and submit to home visits that are kind of like the armchair psychiatry threads here, but with less balanced input. "Hmm, shoes unmatched in hallway, possible schizophrenic tendencies, housekeeping 7/10"

I can not express how disgusting the entire system is, and regular kids who turn out ok kind of "win the lottery"... Kids who get through "the system" as reasonably functional adults have the hand of God on them.
