I haven't seen any of the other threads talk about favorite movies in general but instead tend to discuss specific genres or dedicating entire threads to a single show.

Anyway, as far as movies go I'll be the first to admit I haven't seen too many of them. I just got inspired to write this because of a couple of absolutely fantastic movies I saw recently and would like to share. Their names are Interstellar and Song of the Sea. Holy crap these movies just fell into my lap on accident and blew me away completely.

Interstellar is a space odyssey by the same guy who made Inception with incredibly strong presentation that absolutely captures the despair and loneliness that is associated with exploring deep space. This one made me cry at just how beautifully the plot developed. :heart-full:

Song of the Sea is a western animation that follows a families tragedy and a pair of siblings journey trying to find their way back home with many wonderful allusions to Irish folklore. Animation and art style can only be described as superb and music is even better.

Doesn't matter what genre the movie is, it just has to be one of your absolute favorites.

In that order.

EDIT: Also this is a great thread idea, I'm surprised it wasn't around yet

Oh no... I can never usually keep my favourites to a list and I usually end up sperging about them... I guess I'll try to keep this brief...

From Favourite to SUPER MEGA HYPER Favourite:

Laputa: Castle in the Sky - This is, without a doubt, one of my favourite Miyazaki films. It's innocent, it's adventurous, it's beautifully animated, the characters are fun and it doesn't try to shove the environmental message in your face. And the song at the very end of the film is lovely, so much so that I managed to get it onto my iPod!

Phenomena - As some of you probably know, I am a HUGE fan of the first two Clock Tower games, the inspiration of which was this Italian film (as well as several of Dario Argento's other films). Jennifer Connelly as Jennifer Corvino is a great protagonist, and I especially like Patua, he's definitely one of my favourite kid villains in cinema.

Edward Scissorhands - Tim Burton's best film in my opinion. It's a film I relate to quite closely, because Edward is actually a pretty accurate depiction of someone with Asperger's Syndrome who hasn't been influenced by the internet, like me. That, and it has Vincent Price in it - what more could I ask for?

Jean Cocteau's La Belle et La Bête - This one is a close favourite of mine for a slightly different reason than the others. Because without this classic film, I wouldn't have the appreciation for world cinema I do now. Sure, it's not perfect, but the scenery is amazing and I love the Beast's design, as well Jean Marais and Josette Day as the titular characters.

And finally...

Panna a Netvor - I'm going to guess that very few of you have actually heard of this movie and even fewer of you have seen it. It's another retelling of Beauty and the Beast, only this one is MUCH darker. This Czech gem has some of the most haunting scenery I have ever seen in film, the acting all around is superb and Netvor is, by far, one of the most emotional Beasts ever written. I seriously recommend this film to anybody here looking for a decent fairy tale adaptation that isn't Disney inspired!

These are the movies I'll sit down and watch if they happen to be on. Even if they're halfway over. Even if there are commercials and all the swearing is dubbed out. Even though I own all of them:

Alien
Back to the Future Trilogy (but really mostly 1 & 3)
Any of the 'Dollars Trilogy'
The Outlaw Josie Wales
Stalag 17
The Great Escape
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Witness for the Prosecution
