Your Guilty Pleasure Games -

Although I know all of you consider yourselves to be gamers of the highest pedigree, each of you having killed mountains of zombies, robots, monsters, nameless guards, faceless grunts, and generic baddies- I also believe that deep down inside- you hide a secret of three. You enjoy a game or a series that other gamers or critics hate. But you hold it close because for one reason or another, something about it calls to you and makes you look past it's numerous flaws.

It is time to stand up and be recognized: what are your guilty pleasure games?

For me...

Earth Defense Force 2025. It's a game that knows it's mental and goes with it. I have put dozens of hours into this game and I'm not even close to tired with killing literal oceans of giant enemy ants, spiders, and robotic kill machines. Plus, EDF 2025 has four different classes to choose from, and each of them bring something new to the table and feel totally different from one another. Easily in my top 3 best games of 2014.

Prototype and Prototype 2. It still pisses me off that Activision canned the studio that made this series. Yes, I know, they essentially took the game engine from a Hulk game, but I really don't give a shit. Hulk kicks ass. And yeah, I know it got compared to InFamous since they came out the same time, etc. I've played InFamous 2 and frankly, I still much prefer Alex Mercer over Cole McGrath any day of the week. It just comes down to which one makes me feel more superhuman, and Merer does that infinitely better. Plus, I don't have to put up with any binary good-or-evil bullshit.

Deadly Premonition. Yeah, it's a cult classic game but the game is still... well... it's still Deadly Premonition. The music is bonkers, the character models are terrfying, and to call the gameplay "broken" is giving it a compliment. And yet, I still fucking love it. As in, bought this game three times love it. I've eaten "sinner's sandwiches" love it. Drive through the countryside playing the "Whistle theme" love it. This game is just wonderful in its own insane, demented way and I wouldn't change a single thing with it.

I love prototype on the most primal level. There are few things as awesome as bringing down an infected hive while slaughtering tons of hunters.

Everyone loves Deadly Premonition.

I also like Duke Nukem Forever (to an extent). Not just the multi-player, I get some enjoyment out of the single-player too. Which is weird because the jokes are unfunny, the writing is actually disturbing, and it happens to feature all the game mechanics I hate in modern FPSes.

EDIT: And am I the only one that doesn't think Deadly Premonition's gameplay is horrible? I mean the unexplained zombie scenes were unnecessary, and the controls can be pretty bad at times (die shooting controls), but I didn't have too much of a problem with it.

I kinda like Deus Ex Invisible War

I don't think it's as good as the original (not even in the same league as the original or HR) but I still played through it twice.

Plumbers Don't Wear Ties:
This is one of the funniest things I ever seen. The whole thing is a complete mess, yet I love every second of it. The scenes, the odd choices, I love it all.

Final Fantasy XIII-2:
I know the story has it's faults with missed chances for more characterization and the time travel stuff, but the gameplay is more interesting than the first game. Twenty hours in and I'm enjoying it.

Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness.

Yes, it looks like puke, but it was the only way I could get Castlevania when I was 15, short of blowing into my Dracula's Curse cartridge for 15 minutes. And you know what? Despite the press around it, I really don't think it's that bad of a game. Not up to the caliber of Lords of Shadow, but better than Lament of Innocence.

Battletoads for Game Boy.

This was the first game I got for my Game Boy, aside from Tetris. I fell in love with it, despite the hard-as-nails difficulty. And the stage 4 music was incredible.

And then Venetica.

Venetica is not a particularly good game. It's a competent offering, though, and it tells a coherent and compelling story. And, by God, I had fun.

A couple of honorable mentions:

Primal (PS2), Kya: Dark Lineage (PS2), Jet Force Gemini (N64); Perfect Dark (N64) and even Perfect Dark Zero (360), and Solstice (NES).

I love Prototype and its sequel and I'm playing Earth Defense Force 2025 at the moment.
WWE games I don't watch wrestling and the games aren't great but I like to make characters and its fun to play with my brother.
