I'll start.

Riding my bike home from sixth form when I was 16-7 or so across a major junction. Pedestrian/cycle lights on green, first few lanes of traffic at a standstill. I slowly roll onto the road, passing the cars no more than 5mph. As I'm crossing the last line, which was obscured by a huge truck at the junction line, a car rips through the light at 50mph+, skimming the front tyre of my bike. Another 6 inches and I'd probably be a human pizza in the newspaper. Didn't even give it a second thought until I got home, and was like 'yeah, that was fucking close.'

I found a body chopped in half in a dumpster in my youth over a decade ago, I might have died if I hadn’t reported it. Perhaps that’s exaggeration, but that fear of being next at that age was very real.

Incident in question.

Holy fuck. In all seriousness, how fucked up are you because of that?

I remember seeing a woman being hit by a car when I was 12 or so. She walked off, but that stayed with me for years. Finding a flat-pak corpse is another level.

A lot worse happened to me living in the shit holes I did constantly moving around. I just felt awful about it for a few months. I was... 8 or so? I saw a lot of bodies in Chiraq and The Less Fortunate Suburbs. It just sort of became a thing. Mama, although wasn’t home a lot, simply gave me the advice to give them prayers, let the locals know, then move along. It’s all you can do for them.

Wow. That explains why I’m okay browsing this site- real life’s way more fucked then this. I just never really thought about it.

EDIT: It fucked me up but also made me terribly inconsitent with my empathy. At some moments, like someone dying, I just move along and say some words, but some people have a broken arm, and I coo over them. It’s weird.

I was run over by a drunk driver while crossing the street in 2016. Actually did “die” and had to be resuscitated at the hospital. Sued the drunk for my medical bills and won, but I walk with a permanent slight limp now
I'm guessing this happened in the US? At least now you can say unironically you once took an arrow to the knee. Or claim it's because of your pendulous sack and dong.

I have seen the giblets of a woman who jumped off an overpass splattered across a highway.

I’m sorry you had to see that sort of thing. My condolences. As much as I bet a lot of people have seen death, once I feel is more then enough. Seeing a death that brutal is more then enough to ruin someone’s mental state for awhile.

Stay safe, be good. 💚

It was surreal, but not traumatic. I didn't see it up close; There was a traffic jam and then we got off the highway, and it just looked like a bunch of meat had spilled off a truck or something.

In my teens (for some reason I cannot understand in hindsight, how the fuck was I this stupid?) a friend of mine and me were taking photos on some railroad tracks. And a bullet-train was passing us on the tracks next to the ones we were sitting on at high-speed. Yeah. I don't have to say more, do I?

When I was about 16 me and my friends were walking down to a river to smoke some weed, there was a nice chill spot under a bridge with a rope tied to one of the support pillars so you can get right down next to the water, but before all that there was a steep downhill road we had to go down. I had my shitty bike at the time, and I had the great idea of going down the hill, on my bike, without stopping.
So I'm flying at about 30-40 mph down the hill, and this white SUV is just about to cross the intersection. I didn't even brake, I just kept going at full speed until I reached the bottom, then came back up a little to meet back up with them. I guess I was going pretty fast because when I stopped, the bike chain had popped off (after that I said fuck it and left it by a dumpster). I probably wouldn't have died, but if I had braked, or that car didn't, I'd probably be pretty fucked up.

There's a less interesting one before that, where me and my friend were crossing this big main street to get to his house, and yours truly, being retarded and all, was fucking around in the road because I dunno, I was bored. Thankfully, I took a few steps to the right as a bus sped past where I was just standing. That one probably would have killed me, but again I was young and stupid and didn't really give a fuck, so I didn't even think about it at the time. Looking back though, I think I might have to re-change my profile name to Colonel Magoo.

A close call of a car crash at 90 miles per hour. I hurried up to overtake a slow and erratic truck and on the opposite lane a black Mercedes-benz was speeding like a madman (figures) coming right for me. Should have peeked to watch, but the truck was very slow and seemed dangerous to be behind. I put the pedal to the metal and overtook the truck BARELY to avoid the Benz on the opposite lane. Like a second later I had tried my overtaking and I would be the filling of a car sandwich. I didn't get the "life passed between my eyes" but time did slow down. But when a dog that I had escaped from the leash and almost got hit by a taxi I did get the "life passed" experience. Very weird.

I did some stupid shit when I was a teenager, here's one example.

My first vehicle was an SUV, me and my friend would drive around and chill a ton. One day we were out in the woods by a place we used to frequent and he had an idea. One of us would hang on to the back of the vehicle while he sped down a narrow bumpy dirt path. I went first, and I hung onto the back while my friend drove 90km/h. I almost fell off after my friend hit a massive bump, which at that speed would have at the very least given me brain damage or killed me.

Was at this real redneck field party one time probably about 200 people there including this group of city girls who looked like they should have ended up at a club rather than in some mucky field.

So the guy running the party and his friends are using a tractor with a front lifting attachment for hay to put whole cars, trucks and other trash onto this massive firepit where they then burn down over a course of like 4 hours.

All is going well for most of the night but they put this one truck on the fire and we start hearing popping noises. Maybe it's just the tires expanding and then bursting? In any case I started to make my way away from the fire just in case some molten rubber flies out. Most people are also making their way back but there are a few too drunk/high to care or notice including a couple sitting on a couch right beside the firepit.

Right as I'm getting to about 30 feet away the whole pile of cars just explodes in the biggest fireball I've ever seen. The next five minutes are complete chaos as burning people ran around and I tried to make sure all my friends were ok. This one party girl goes running past with her fake hair melted to her real hair and people are being loaded up to be rushed to hospital. One guy was so burnt they just put him in the back of a truck and let him lay there while they drove.

Me and my group booted it out of the pretty quick due to having drugs on us so i never really saw the extent of the carnage.

No one died thankfully but I saw the guy that was sitting at the edge of the pit a few months later and the skin was still growing back on his arms. Apparently the police never found the reason for the explosion.

When I was a kid I really liked climbing trees. One time I fell from a decent height from a tree and smacked my head on the ground. I was alright, but only a couple of inches away from where I smacked my head was a cinder block. I really think if I had hit that it would be kersplat. But maybe not, I don't really know.

Cant speak for myself, but my mother worked as a nurse at a hospital and almost died from exhaustion. She didn't tell me this till years later, but while she was passed out she said she was in this white room waiting area, happier then she's ever been in her life. Waiting to go to heaven.

She didn't want to come back to life. Her coworkers attempts to revive her were viewed as an annoyance and only begrudgingly decided to come back when they called her name and screamed for her to breathe.

I firmly believe god is out there looking out for us in ways we cannot hope to imagine.

I would be very curious to hear if you felt or saw anything when you were clinically dead.

Not a near death experience for me but I nearly killed someone myself once. Was driving through a heavily wooded area in the UK at night, going 50-60 MPH, when I came across a bend in the road. I followed it, unaware that just on the other side was a man walking down the middle of my side of the road in pure black clothing. I managed to see him at the absolute last second and swerved into the other lane to avoid him. I must have been just a few feet away from clipping this dude and killing him on the spot. Hard to forget about that.
