You know what this is. Every time a Youtuber whines about the e-career they make by using someone else's copyrighted content, a Kiwi gets his stubs replaced with real wings.

You hear a lot about how much it regrets the Youtube author to announce that their vidya playthroughs were striked for copyright infringement and even though they get to keep their video up, which is a privilege most people do not get when this happens anywhere else on the internet, they will take to the podium cry about it to their subscribers as if they could do anything about it. They'll usually save face by telling their fans that they don't want them to take action on the author's part just to get them to do that very thing by way of reverse psychology.

They'll front that they're totally, completely neutral about everything in an attempt to vainly veil their actual intentions. But this is just the appetizer my lovelies.

This is the video that gave me the idea to make this thread. How dare a vidya company rip down an illegally distributed copy of their game. How dare they protect their IPs, it's as much ours as it is theirs. We should retaliate by pirating all their games because they wouldn't let us pirate their games.

And finally the crème de la crème of this e-whining, the Nostalgia Critic's very own "where's the fair use?" where he complains that he can't just stream the entirety of a movie for profit on the most mainstream website on the entirety of the internet and dodge consequences by splicing in his reactions.

Prior to this Doug enjoyed a cushy career that went unchallenged in reviewing movies on Blip, but one day, he reviewed the room and the owners of the movie retaliated. When that happened, Doug resorted to doing the following.

As you can imagine, screeing his entitlement on Youtube probably wouldn't draw much sympathy in the way it did for him on Blip.

Of course, as much as I don't think it belongs here, it'll end up here anyway. Youtube's limited state program which is not designed to protect the rights of copyright holders but to punish wrong thinking proles.

I generally like Jim and his character (rates self :deviant:), but this video is bizarre and very conflicting to watch.
He seems to be in a genuine, unironic fit of rage, and wildly attacking strawmen of people making all the very well-known arguments - that YT isn't an employer, that it would be foolish to stake your living on them even if they had integrity etc etc. - but never actually replying with anything other than "but it's more FUN than office work/I deserve this/YOU'RE the dumbass failures not being YouTubers yourselves".

The guy is a) still very very rich and b) significantly contributed to this crisis by riding (if not spearheading) every single socjus outrage fad du jour, so everyone is fully entitled to watch this shitfit and chuckle at the karma.

Recently a bodybuilder was complaining about his videos getting demonetized:
The video itself is pretty generic ("YouTube is flagging all my videos, what the hell man, where's the fair use") but the comments section is spectacularly autistic.

Which is funny, because I saw many complaints that Youtube is demonetizing videos about gay issues and other controversial left-wing things.
Youtube doesn't care about the users. Their actual customers got more picky about the contents that shows next to their ads, so Youtube just does what it's supposed to do.

It's better to throw away some grain than to leave in some weed seeds and insects and contaminate the flour.

I also noticed that all demonetized channels I've heard of (not that my viewing habits are too diverse) fall into one of the following categories:
– let's-players and other low-brow gaming content
– political "commentary"
– reactions and video "commentary"

So all kinds of crap dug out straight from the bottom of the Youtube barrel. I don't have much sympathy towards them and if Youtube cuts their shekel flow, I won't mind at all.

Or maybe it's just other kinds of channels have enough maturity to not whine like little kids when they stop getting free shit. Because this is what it is: free shit. Not only they can host videos for free, they even get free money for doing so.

Note: I'm strictly speaking about demonetization salt. Copyright strike salt is less concentrated and I can sympathize with some of complainants.

It also affects animal rescue channels because they often show graphic content.

There aren't many decent LPers. I've only seen like a couple I could even watch. And they weren't mega famous. Probably because they didn't scream like retards to entertain 10 year olds.

As for the political commentary, everyone seems to think they are the next big modern day philosopher. Everyone has all the answers. All you need to do is turn off that pesky adblock or shell out some Patreon bucks to support them so they can educate everyone on how it really is. Most of these guys seem bbarely sentient to me and have no idea what they are talking about. But they pander enough to a certain group of idiots that they can rake in the views steadily enough. People like hearing their own beliefs parroted back at them. It's comforting. It reaffirms that they are right. That's why you see all those bobbleheads nodding along to Limbaugh, Hannity and those other mouthpieces. It feels good to know someone out there is just like you and they're going to fix everything so the world can be just the way you want it to be.

People with narrow world views tend to be selfish and self serving. So it's no surprise that a bunch of "political geniuses" are triggered by Youtube derailing the money train and then automatically think it's only because of their views. It's not. Your content is crap. The guy with the opposite opinion to yours is also out of luck because his content is crap too. Of course you aren't going to be advertiser friendly is you go on crazy tangents about feminism and the Illuminati. Why do you think those conservative talking heads on the radio shill vitamins and seminars instead of Ford and Cola Cola?

Reaction videos are bottom of the barrel entertainment for kiddies and people who are stuck in line at Walmart for the next half hour. People that will click on anything that looks even remotely interesting and fall for clickbait titles. Reacting to other people's content while the original uploader gets no views or money isn't going to be a viable career for long. Look at all the stolen funny animal videos that get compiled together and end up with millions of views while the person who shot the video doesn't get anything. So you deserve money for making faces and talking over other people's videos? You better be damn funny to warrant that.

I knew Youtube as a career was the next dotcom bubble.

This isn't the same as going to your job and having your boss go "Sorry, I know you worked today but I've decided not to pay you". You aren't employed by Youtube. You upload the videos at your leisure without any guarantee that monetizing them is going to work out for you. Youtube really owes you nothing. And if you were really so talented I'd think you'd be doing better.

I do think Youtube has a lot of issues and sometimes what they do sure seems unfair. But the amount of moaning over demonitization of complete garbage content kind of makes you start to lose sympathy after awhile.

It's sweet, sweet :bluelabel: schadenfreude time every time some doofus bitches over the demonitization of their "watch me talk over somebody else's copyrighted video" content. How did people not see this coming? There are tons of channels with absolutely no original video content.

I've seen some low view weeb teen bedroom vlogs bitch about getting demonetized, but, once again, that's utterly the bottom of the barrel. Even if advertisers hadn't panicked over Pewdiepie, I bet a mass culling was already planned. No way Mazda and Mr. Clean appreciated paying 1 cent per click to sponser a slideshow of anime screenshots with a Miku cover of the OP song playing in the background.

I'd be more worried about YouTube deciding what you can or cannot easily search through some politically programmed bot system that still never works like it should.
That's my main problem with this whole situation, the fact that this bot seems to have absolutely shit accuracy when it comes to determining who to demonetize and who not to.

when youtubers bitch on how much money they aren't making, to me those the one I try to avoid watching, because they are only in it for the money

I really could not give a shit if they were in it just for the money or not, what matters to me is if they suck or not. Do you think Hollywood makes movies for the community?
