At this point 5 year old kids are the only thing making money for this site. Kids who are put in front of a tablet by their parents to watch toy channels on autoplay don't care about blocking ads.

So why didn't they just split the site in two? have the 5 yr old im too stupid to use an ad blocker version, loaded with kids ads, and a far less intrusive side banners so people wouldn't be tempted to ad block for the adults? If ads weren't in my fucking face every five minutes while trying to watch vids I'd be fine with it.

Aren't there restrictions on aiming too much advertisements at kids? At least there are on TV. Come to think of it I barely see toy or McDonald's commercials anymore. The ones I do see are for adult aimed stuff like their coffee.

Youtube Kids already exists as an app and little kids are too dumb to figure out adblock. But I imagine it's not so easy to try to convince corporate to make a defined split between the kiddies and everyone else. Let's face it, too many parents are dumbasses who use Youtube as a babysitter then complain when their kids accidentally see something they shouldn't. Either they don't use the app because they can barely figure out how to get Candy Crush off of Google Play or they aren't aware of it.

If they made a definite split then you'd still have issues with kids wandering onto the "not safe for junior" version and then mommy complains that little Aydynne and Dahkoatah saw a bad thing on the internet. And of course you will get the massive loads of salt from channels like Queer Kids Stuff for not letting their creepy pedo vibe propaganda onto the kiddie site. They're already REEEing over it now. Imagine if they really made a split and all the poor widdle trans kids can't see queer media just for them?

I admit the salt would be hilarious though.

Honestly though, this might be for the best. They'd really have to push their kids app as more than just optional for parents though. But you still run into issues with advertisers who are afraid their particular brand of soda or auto tires are promoting the wrong thing.

First they came for the blarms, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Sonic fan.
Then they came for the Instagrams, and I did not speak out - because I had no clue what an Instagram is.
Then they came for the Youtubes - and who gives a shit, the old logo was extremely forgettable, and the new one is equally so. Youtube is not a thing you buy at the store, brand recognition by label is not important.
