Do you guys ever check out petitetube.com? Edit: petittube.com, that other one is porn.

Just look at the bottom-of-the-barrel, zero effort spam Youtube has to deal with every minute of every day.
I just watched a 2 second clip of the ground, in a third world nation, with people shouting in the background, titled a random string of characters.
I agree that they should have no obligation to retain useless, garbage on their servers.
I'd even wager that over 50% of all videos on the platform have 0 views.
Being able to upload worthless garbage allows people to upload treasures without having to worry about being lost forever if nobody finds it in time.
That's a basic fact of the internet.
Youtube wanting to just be cable is another fact.

EDIT: Serious question and avoiding a double-post. Does PornHub only allow porn content to be uploaded? Is there a niche little corner of PornHub with longplays and anime reviews and stuff?
There are a few videos I've seen that have absolutely zero porn, and are about gun-related shit. Not sure if they're still up though.

Problem is, there's more trash than treasure- be it from YouTube or the people they're trying to fuck over.

> Be YouTube.
> Do illegal shit.
> Get fined by government for doing illegal shit.
> Manage to convince the government to fine private individuals instead of you.
> Keep doing same illegal shit.
I wouldn't call the creators completely innocent either.
Everyone knows YouTube spies on its users. Creators know and even profit from YouTube's illegal shit.
And creators popular with kids help YouTube spy on children more. How are they not complicit?

A lot of moral outrage but no one is willing to give up supporting an immoral company.
None of them are gonna get a real job and stop trying to make money streaming Fortnite on YouTube.

Has anyone thought about the fact YouTube also made 'on the edge' videos non-monitizable? Now their new ToS saying stuff for children isn't montisable either, so it's like YouTube is saying they can't run ads on edgy stuff or on Family Friendly stuff because of disregarding COPPA. (Which from what I understand a lot of companies disregard until they're fined over it)

So I'm kinda wondering what is considered 'good content' in their standards now?

If your 'treasure' is worth so much then you should put the time and effort needed into putting it somewhere respectable instead of tossing it into an infinite garbage field and hoping some toothless hobo rubs the shit off it and holds it up for a moment so that his friends can gawp.

Consider the nature of the site you are posting on and what could constitute a "treasure" in that context.

I am not a lawyer, is there a reason YouTube can't just make everyone tick a checkbox saying they're over 13 like tons of other websites do?
Incompetence. They, and most websites, can't prevent kids from lying about their age, or using a relative's account. Their rules state that those under 13 can't make an account, but no one can stop them from getting on besides their parents, and fuck if they'll do anything to curb their child's behavior.

In the age of adblock, toddlers drooling over Frozen videos because Mommy used the tablet as a babysitter again make up a significant portion of monetizable views for YouTube.

Archive everything you care about on YT.
Null made a great video for brainlet's like myself.

For anyone that wants a program with a GUI, there's 4k Video Downloader:

Really simple to use, gives you resolution options and even tells you how large the files for each resolution will be. The only limitations on the free version are that it won't download playlists that have more than (I think) 20 videos in them and that advertisements are sometimes shown at the bottom of the program. It also has the option to just download audio from a video. You can even download the shitty auto-generated subtitles that Youtube videos have if you want.
It's available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

youtube-dl remains the patrician's choice for downloading Youtube content for offline viewing. Free, runs on almost everything, and can download anything Youtube can throw at it (and hundreds of other sites, too). Buttload of options, too, like "only download audio" and "auto-select the highest quality available" and "only download 720p" and "keep track of what I've already downloaded so you don't download it again if I accidentally ask you to" and "here's some app API credentials so you can download videos that require a login" and so on.
