Nihon Falcom has confirmed their next major release is in the Ys franchise. I'll put current information about the game here as it's released and upload promotional images and such, as well as links to articles where I found them.
- It's scheduled for a Fall 2019 release for PS4 in Japan. International release and ports to other platforms are not known at this time.
- Adol will return once again to adventure, but he is depicted differently than before. Including in appearance.
- Takes place in the prison city of Barduke (or Baldeux, or Balduq; romanization is hard?), which is a highly vertical urban zone with a countryside area around it. You can climb onto the rooftops and run along them. It is a stage for action with mysteries to explore and gimmicks to play with.
- Takes place after all Ys games so far. Adol, the protagonist of the series, has built a reputation by now
- Guild system has Adol run a guild in the city, an upgrade on the castaway village in Ys 8
- Adventure gear system from Ys 8 will be replaced with something that can handle many more utility upgrades
- Monstrum are people or creatures that possess supernatural abilities. Some of them will join Adol for party-based gameplay similar to the previous titles. It's also possible that you can switch between characters but play solo on each, without support characters tagging along and helping in the fight.
- Monstrum Nox means Night of the monsters
- Many more movement options including a form of flying
- The lady in the picture above has a major role on the story

Ys IX first gameplay, new details
What do you think? I'm carefully hyped for the first Ys not primarily designed for a portable console. It seems like a good upgrade on Ys 8 features wise, too. Also, feel free to banter about previous Ys games if you like
