Did he get a warning on the dashboard about the cooling system and just dump coolant in there? It's not like oil where you can get away with doing that for a bit if you run dry. He could take it to somewhere to get the error codes read to get a decent idea of what a repair might run him. Kinda what he shoulda done before doing what he did to "fix" it but oh well.

Those and most cars have a very loose "dummy" gauge for the temp, the water temp on cars shifts around a lot, and this worries and annoys most drivers.

While it looks and does its job it has a big sweep you'd think it will show you details it really doesn't, it's got cold, happy middle (where it sits in the operating temp range) and too hot to oh shit.

It's clearly in the too hot. The only thing really the duratec 2L his car has is famous for is intake manis cracking on the early models.

If Chris had friends I'd say get it off the road ASAP esp being an alum motor and ask them, but he will put it around, till it stops running and the repair bill will be large.

There's a lot of reasons it's heating up. I assume he has the AC blasting and no oil changes ever . He should run the heat with Windows wide open and take some off and check the thermostat those models always lose thermostats .

Chris mentions leaking, that's the hoses, or fittings, possibly the rad itself, a dead even lack of thermostat will not cause leakage loss like he's speaking of.

That motor is a Mazda engine really.

Edit: I just checked Chris is lucky it takes basic coolant so what ever he poured in it won't eat the hoses worse... I had horror flashbacks of dex cool.
