Zach Snyder is a shit director.. change my mind - Has Snyder made a single watchable film?

I remember more Zach Snyder films than the entirety of the MCU since at least his shit is visually memorable. Considering how utterly fucked cinema nowadays, complaining about the guy that didn't make a movie for a few years is almost quaint.

Snyder basically makes bollywood-tier spectacle nonsense that makes ludicrous amounts of money abroad. I still laugh at how every name signing the "punish rotten tomatoes for being mean to the DC universe" petitions was some flavor of Pedro or Pajeet.

There are a total of 3 great D.C. movies. Superman 1, 2, and The Dark Knight. (Begins and Rises are good)

True enough I guess, but personally the only "good" Snyder movie for me was 300. Outside of that, the only other Snyder movie I looked forward to was the Owl one and that was a shitty adaptation to say the least. In the end both Snyder and Abrams crap suffer from the same problem, they're all visuals with no substance, but Abrams goes the extra mile to be as lazy as possible with his garbage and substitutes any attempt at a plot with empty boxes that offer nothing, and when it comes time to open the boxes, it comes as no surprise that there was nothing in them so he just shoves boxes within boxes that still do nothing like he does for all of his crappy films. With Snyder at least the guy actually fills his boxes/plot with something before sending them out. I mean sure the boxes are always full of crap, but at least he bothered to fill them with something.

In the end, Snyder is basically just a slightly more offensive Michael Bay with more creative visuals I guess (Sucker Punch was an atrocious mess but the visuals were unique if nothing else). While Abrams is a shittier Michael Bay with even lazier visuals who thinks even less of his audiences and has never done anything unique or memorable in terms of plot or visuals outside of being known for obnoxious lens flares. Two sides of the same shitty coin I guess.

I couldn't even laugh at 300. I would have walked out of it if it wern't for the fact my friend drove me there... and I had no other means to get home.

However, you can at least find something in 300 to laugh at. Art is 100% subjective.

300 was a dogshit comic book to begin with, so he was fighting an uphill battle.

Imagine trying to make the most totalitarian regime in recorded history out to be a bunch of freedom-loving American Snippres.

Last week, my roommmate and i watched "Jaws 4: the Revenge" ..that is a huge stink pile of an excuse for a Hollywood produced movie. The Making of extra feature reveals that the head of Universal thought it would be easy to capture lightinging in a bottle twice (hey, Jaws II was a critical and box office "success" too right?) Sid Shyinberg called the director personally said he would give him free reign (what every director wants and needs) with casting, ..heck, every aspect of the film was tottally under control of the director... This call was in November of 1986. The catch was that the film had to be ready for theaters by summer of 1987. There was NO script at that moment. So the director found a writer... wrote the script in less than a month. They had to go with the first draft (and it really shows) and began shooting by January 1987.

This is the one time a Hollywood exceuctive started with giving the director full control from day one. Even total control of a shitty script will give you a shitty movie.. no matter how good the actors are (Michael Cain) Plus, you can edit shit down all you want, and if every frame is shit.. it will still be a shitty movie.

This seems like a very reductive way to think. While I do agree that Zach Snyder an awful director, but most super hero movies are pretty mediocre if not bad; yet that doesn't mean the genre itself can't offer anything of substance. While looking at super hero movies as a whole it's probably a grey blob of 5/10 but, there happens to be quite a few of high quality films with in it. (Mainly older marvel films, because similarly to DC they have an addiction to hiring shitty directors)

I'll stand by his adaptation of Watchmen, particularly the Director's Cut version (the Ultimate Cut goes a little overboard, even though The Tale of the Black Freighter is cool on it's own.) Yes, there's no giant squid, and yes, the "Hallelujah" scene is an abomination, but I can't help but love the film for its maximalism. It's hard, back in 2009 or now, to find a major mainstream film with those kind of balls. And yes, I do think that the differences in the ending is an improvement in some regards. The characters willfully shouldering the burden of the truth (and Dr. Manhattan taking the blame for the destruction) adds a new layer of depth to their arcs, IMO. I haven't seen his cut of the Justice League yet, but if it's a fraction as interesting as his Watchmen adaptation was, that already puts it leagues ahead of any JJ Abrams, Joss Whedon, or MCU product.

I'm not a fan a Snyder, but I'd rather watch a thousand hours of his retarded "Superman=Christ" movies than another MCU turd. Henry Cavill straining to give a shit about the pathetic bugmen below and then doing a big punch is infinitely more entertaining than your typical "I hope magic man overcomes his relatable flaws to save the day" plot.

I guess what I'm getting at is that at least his movies, shit as they are, have "soul" haha

Snyder honestly only has any sort of clout because his fanboys say "A-AT LEAST IT'S NOT LIKE THE MCU!!!" as though it excuses Snyder's garbage to be good. Like damn he made the biggest blunder of a Superman ever with how he keeps treating Superman as a god which is absolute cringe especially with the forced religious dialogue and symbolism in his films. It's a shame too since Henry Cavill is a really great actor. It's also amazing how he managed to make a shit Batman in the same film where he acts like a complete retard.

Snyder's movies as a whole aren't even that good to begin with. I get wanting competition to the MCU due to its problems, but giving us a movie where Superman has the charisma of a broken spoon, a Batman who acts like a damn idiot and as brutal as the criminals he goes after, and a billionaire who is more like Zuckerberg as opposed to being the Luthor we know. That's not including his shitty themes, terrible dialogue, and his tendencies to make extremely long cuts that have no chance of being seen in theaters.

The amount of people defending this dude is laughable, the dude literally helped build DCEU on a shitty foundation (the studio executives are more to blame imo) , only to have it come crashing down a few years later.

I liked 300 and Watchmen. If you dislike the 300 movie, you wouldn't like the source material because the film is practically a 1:1 per page adaption of the movie with some added stuff for run time. At the time, 300 was pretty stylistically different and it's just entertaining to watch.

Watchmen just appeals to my 80s autism. It's funny because I was never a big fan of the source material, not clear reason why, but the film I can sit down and watch any time.

As others have said, Snyder is nowhere near as bad a JJ Abrams. JJ doesn't have a single good film and I believe his success is all due to luck and industry cocksucking.
