will somebody tell me what is up with the skirt-go-spinny thing? i've seen literally dozens of them post these videos on tumblr and twitter.

i've seen little girls (real ones) 'spin' in skirts or dresses when they first start wearing them (around 4-5 yrs old) but by 8-9 yrs old, seem to grow out of it.
never seen an adult woman do it, or even a teenaged girl. its CHILD behavior and quite bizarre to see grown men doing it.

I'm not actually worried about someone's Blender blunder being a bad influence on kids or whatever because people are already capable of doing real clueless things under their own power without it being concretely traceable back to singular influences like this at all. There are normalizing pills I take (estrogen! testosterone blockers!) because without them, my brain's "normal" has been to fire off like a skull full of ketamine and summon a suffocating gauze of dissociation that didn't remit for a single second until I transitioned at 23.​

And, let me not under-emphasize this, I have two sons with ADHD who were on medication for a time, and the way to handle this is definitely to keep pill bottles away from them and dispense it to them daily yourself. If, as a parent, my child has grabbed hold of pill bottles and is opening them and dumping them out, there's something I've obviously failed to account for in my management of the house and it could have god knows what consequences.​

That and, you know, talk to them about their struggles? Find someone for them to talk to who understands what ADHD looks like and acts like? Ask them if they're willing to try something that might help them as they work? Check in with them about what they feel it does for them? You just help your child like you help anyone who's trying to navigate living with this.​

Now, if your approach to a struggling child is to fob them off on someone else so you don't have to talk to them and just tell them to take their pills and start acting normal already, that's more along the lines of my upbringing and it was not supportive or helpful. That doesn't mean that all management of ADHD is characterized by an inadequate and disinvolved and hostile approach to parenting where you treat a child like a failed mechanical component of the school system who needs to be taken to the repair shop​
