The rise up these fake "trad catholics" is not something new, it's evident anywhere within a political community sphere, including the Farms.

My question is: why is it so appealing now? Is it because it is now supposedly a "counter-belief" towards what they assume is the mainstream? Is it the influence and grooming by weirdos like Nick Fuentes and Baked Alaska? And how come most of them are incels and/or have misogynistic thoughts and frustration towards women?

On the internet? It's mostly people who are "culturally" Catholic but not practing, and think Deus Vult is funny.

In meatspace? Committed Catholic Zoomers and millenials (such as myself) are hard to find, but they do exist. I highly doubt they've heard of Baked Alaska or Nick Fuentes.

Bit of a PL here, but I've spent 10 years mentoring for a parish youth group, and dare say a lot of catechesis sucks.

Parents think they can outsource their kids' faith formation by dropping them in a Catholic school or going to youth group once a week. Most young people fall away from their faith in college.

But let's assume it's not a meme, for the sake of argument. People want substance and purpose, not gimmicks. One of the worst mistakes ever made was trying to make church "cool". Young people can see right through the "how do you do, fellow kids?" schtick.

Imagine being a crossback and thinking the pope is worth listening to ever, lmao
I basically ignore anything not happening in my own diocese. The office politics at the Vatican are depressing.

I remember back in 2013, people were gushing about how Pope Francis would usher in a "new springtime" for Catholicism. It's more like a nuclear winter.

Zoomer Catholics are like priests: they're all gay and trying to hide their cock-lust through "abstinence".

That being said, cool it with the wordy lefty-cuck memes.

I don't get the appeal of "trad cath" mainly because many of these zoomers have a view of the Catholic Church in some sort of weird utopian and idealistic way while in reality it's a flawed 2,000 year old institution that's corrupted itself and it's message many times over to appeal to the times. Around 70-80 years ago the Catholic Church was way more traditional and against modernity as well as communism. Now the church is practically ran by a heretical jesuit from Argentina who sheltered communists in the 70s and 80s. The problem with following a religious organization is that they have a tendency to corrupt over time. Seeing the history of the Catholic Church up until the Protestant Reformation, the catholic church had become a corrupt and decrepit organization, it still happens with the catholic church even today. I will also now declare that despite this is not an excuse to be an atheist or to turn away from God as I still believe in a God but not organized religion.

TL;DR, Deism is based and catholicism is cringe.

I had a friend who was a "tradcath" at one stage, and the main thing that stuck out to me was that he grew up in a secular, non-practicing (to the point of being virtually atheistic) household. The fact his religious devotion was his own initiative rather than something that was being pushed onto him by his parents was what made it appealing to him, so in that sense I don't think tradcath as a subculture would be appealing to someone who actually grew up in a strictly religious household.

I believe you are overthinking things.
I would say a main reason os because it looks cool.
Compare the cathedrals, rituals amd gregorian chants that catholics have compared with protestant's barns bleak mega churches, lack of rituals and christian rock.
Also maybe it's just me but this seems to me to be mostly a american problem. You don't hear about this kind of thing in the protestant parts of Europe

This is how it is with me. I went through the sacraments and all, but we didn't go to Mass regularly as a family. I started going on my own in high school.

Converts are some of the most devout Catholics, while kids who were raised in it can end up like MovieBob.

America is much more religious than Europe. A good chunk of people in Protestant Europe are atheists, especially Scandinavia.

It could be a variety of factors, but it still stands that forging your own belief in a God is based and catholicism is cringe. Also, I overthink on a lot of things mainly because I find it fun to speculate.

I fell away from catholicism around 6 years ago. I was an atheist for a bit, up until Early 2020 when I started thinking about the existence of a God as well as the cringe from fedora tippers driving me away. Ever since the COVID pandemic, I've been a Deist. I can confirm that what you say about parents outsourcing their kids' faith formation is 100% accurate without a shadow of a doubt.

And on top of that, most Catholic schools are garbage at teaching the faith and fostering a culture of faith. Most of them care more about whether you have money and/or can carry a football.

I accept the Catholic Church's teachings in spite of its earthly leadership, not because of it. We're all sinners.

The whole doctrine of papal infallibility doesn't mean the Pope can do no wrong or has all the answers to life's questions. It merely means that, when teaching formally on matters of faith and morals, he will not contradict God. As a Catholic, I am not bound to agree with the pope's personal opinions.

IMO, the Church has been getting soft because it hasn't faced any real adversity in recent decades. In the years between the French Revolution and the world wars, there was an anti-Church animus in Europe that shook the Church out of complacency.
