Tumblr Shitstorm Thread - Now Female-Presenting-Nipple-Free... We Think

Tumblr plunged down into the depths once they made porn not allowed for non-users to view, forcing everyone to sign up just to turn off safesearch. You can't turn off safesearch unless you have an account. The reason this was made is because underage users are reporting NSFW blogs. It's as stupid as it sounds.

Fuck that, I'm not going to sign up on that site.

The thing is, the mass reporting was arguably Tumblr's fault too, because it could've easily been avoided if it hadn't taken them 9 years to install a non-functional safe search filter that even Deviant Art and Twitter had managed to achieve. Seriously, that alone caused so much grief, especially in fan circles where Tumblrites got into massive slap-fights over what tags r34 artists could and couldn't use - and usually not for any legitimate concerns but over shipping bullshit and the like. Which was made even funnier when all the Tumblrites who'd previously gone "when will Tumblr get rid of all this gross porn of this specific ship I hate, think of the MINORS" did an immediate heel-turn to "WAAAAH but now I can't MY favorite porn!!" when the safe search system was implemented.

Tumblr has the right to allow or disallow any content. They're trying to run a legitimate, respectable business
I'm sorry, I couldn't read past that line with a straight face. If Tumblr had been truly trying to be a respectable business, they would've hired real programmers right out of the gate, cut those twee error "owo sowwy we had an oopsie" messages ages ago (or even better, not done them at all), and maybe taken a hint several years ago when Apple raised the age level for the Tumblr app from all ages to 18+ that maybe there was something up with their content and either Tumblr's age limit needed to be raised, or there needed to be a serious overhaul of their filtering systems - preferably both since even factoring out the porn, there's so much bad advice, misinformation, and vitriol on there that it seems to have very negative effects on the naive and impressionable that 13 year olds really shouldn't have been on their unsupervised to begin with.

Tumblr has always been an incompetent cesspool and they deserved every ounce of their toxic user base for letting things get this bad.

If I have to admit it's a double standard to shit on loli/shota without targeting other freaks then we'll also have to admit it's a double standard for gay people to have same sex marriage while 'minor attracted people' get vanned at the same time. Why not? It's the same false equivalency umbrella argument being purported.

That's an odd comparison. I'm not really sure what you're trying to say. It's like you are saying people who draw Yaoi and Lolis is the same as gay marriage and pedos? You've lost me.

I take some issue with every other post veering into an angry on the internet paragraph about SJW's
SJW's are stupid, but they're not posting the porn here for the most part, that's how this shit usually stays as something everyone knows about because they have or know someone who's run into it, but not something the powers that be notice until it's too late and a site has a strong cheese pizza network.
CP bots and accounts (that have half a brain) don't have personalities or identifying information, they just post images and occasionally some bland, copy paste text linking to external sites.
Pedo Acceptance uwu blogs also exist, but are usually text only and impossible to prove, and could easily be poes.
not to mention the rest of the site hates them, just look at how a lot of toy blogs have "not a fetish blog!" or "do not reblog if you're a fetish blog!" in their bios because they dont want to be associated with ddlg people who sexualise minors.

These have been my two cents, thank you.

As someone who used to use the site a lot, they deserved to be taken off the app store years ago. The large amount of shoplifting, self harm, beastiality, and CP MAP blogs should've gotten site shut down by the FBI a thousand times over. The staff waited until their money was being jeopardized to do something about the blogs, and even then it was half assed at best. They basically just made safe mode permanent, blocked porn tags, and deleted every nsfw blog, regardless of whether or not they actually had any illegal content. The staff isn't just to blame either, the user base is almost as worse. Many people have left the site because it's just gotten so toxic over the years, because people will argue and focus on the most trivial shit. There are blogs dedicated to just finding someone who made a small mistake and just harassing them until they get bored or the person deletes. There are people who take things like fandoms and treat it like life and death. Fandoms like Taz, Voltron, even Star Wars have people who just won't stop being negative and attacking anyone who finds joy in something they hate. There are no casual fans in their eyes. If you're not harassing creators on Twitter or sending actors hate mail, you're just a "fake fan". I don't know how the website became such a cesspool, I mean most websites have the occasional loon, but on Tumblr there are literally thousands of people who are just a special breed of insane. I hope the next step is just ending the website, because I don't know how you can come back from this.

The hilarious part is they only banned the blogs that produced the NSFW. If somebody has a reblog of it, it still exists and can be reblogged again. If the person who reblogged it didn’t add tags to it, they have no way of finding it for deletion.

Loli/shota is gross as hell but it isn't spurring people to go out and diddle kids. That's the same argument puritanical idiots used to say violent video games caused mass shootings.

I'd rather focus my time and energy into real kids who are forced into sex/human trafficking. They are the real victims.

Plus, from what I understand, Tumblr’s staff hasn’t so much deleted a lot of those NSFW blogs so much as simply permanently shadow banned them on mobile, so you can’t find them through Tumblr’s regular search engines but they’ll still appear in your feed if you already follow them or know the URL they can still be found. Which is extremely sketchy given the circumstances since it makes Tumblr look like they’re simply sweeping the content that Apple objected to under the rug until they get access to the App Store back rather than buckling down and making any significant changes; though so far it looks like that’s not the case with any of the MAP shit, hopefully it stays that way.

There’s also the major flaws in the algorithm Tumblr’s using considering phrases like “chicken breast,” “breast plate,” and “nude figure drawing” also appear to be censored, but images & posts with those tags will appear under similar-but-different searches like “chicken” or “figure drawing”. I predict this will likely backfire spectacularly for Tumblr when r34 & porn artists decide “fuck it” and forgo any nsfw tags in favor of going back to flooding regular tags with their stuff just to have it seen.

There's a lot of buttmad people defending drawn cp because "fiction =/= reality" ignoring the fact that drawn depictions are still illegal under US law. Weird hill to die on but ok.

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/1466A

Not even getting into the controversy surrounding the Protect Act itself (the act that essentially created this part of the U.S. Code) and the issues regarding obscenity law in the U.S. in general, since when has anybody given a shit what the U.S. government has to say on any given issue when debating the same? Especially since not everybody in this thread (or anybody for that matter) is guaranteed to be living under U.S. law. I much rather care about how the U.S. has been handling real child pornography, and why they haven't brought the hammer down on Tumblr, considering how well known and widespread the CP issue was on the site (apparently).

I also wonder whether the Safe Harbor provisions of Section 230 safe harbors of the Communications Decency Act (which make online services immune from civil liability for the actions of their users) would continue to apply to Tumblr in this situation. If it could be demonstrated that Tumblr knew about the CP being distributed on their site and did not take any steps to get rid of it or curtail it, could they possibly be held accountable for aiding its distribution? The last thing we want is a "Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act (SESTA) and Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA)" Round Two on our hands just because Tumblr is run by idiots.

That law is used to get longer sentences for actual pedos by driving up the total number of images that can be called CP.

It has never been used against anyone who had only hentai material and likely never will both because of the constitutional concerns and that prosecutors do not care about Chinese cartoons.

Those only apply to drawings that depict the likeness of REAL LIFE minors.

It's why shadman got slapped with a C&D from dafne keens lawyers when he drew some nasty shit involving her character from Logan.

US law doesn't give a shit if you're jacking your dick to porn of Kanna Kobayashi.

No one here ever made the assertion that both were an equal reality or that nobody could tell them apart, the closest you have was my assertion that if I have to admit it were a double standard to be accepting of other kinds of sexual or non-sexual extremes in fiction that I'd also have to accept it as a double standard in real life sexual leanings, and to frame my argument in this way would be a classic form of a straw man.

It wasn't in reference to you, calm down lol

I’m pretty sure this was precisely why Apple decided to pull the plug. Someone in Apple’s legal division probably determined that Tumblr’s lack of any evident preventive measures, much less effective ones, meant Tumblr can’t argue any plausible deniability - especially with PSAs with 100,000+ responses encouraging users to report CP to the FBI instead of Tumblr floating around - and advised it was best for Apple to cut ties with Tumblr sooner rather than later.

Reading this thread has been a shitshow. Tumblr has the reputation it does because of what is actually just a vocal minority. I don't know what the hell so many of you have been doing that you ever personally encountered CP on tumblr, or sincerely believe the entire site is just rabid SJWs.

There are movie blogs, car blogs, fashion blogs--blogs for just about anything you can think of. Once I began distancing myself from fandoms and drama, I experienced a decent place to look at cool architecture and movie posters on a site with a format that's easy to browse and share, and where your personal page is highly customizable. Does it have issues? No shit. But the ease of use and page layout is hard to find elsewhere, and if you're not deliberately looking for sketchy shit or discourse, you can have a blogging experience that's fairly free of both.

I can't wait for all of the landwhales to defend CP/loli and try and co-opt free speech. Truly a blessed life we live.
Uh...what? SJWs fucking HATE loli/shota, they definitely do NOT defend it (many also argue against and mock the idea of free speech, referring to is as "freeze peach"). SJWs also aren't the ones defending MAPs. The majority of the site despises MAPs, and any other blatant pedophile. The so-called "acceptance" of them is being spread by pedos themselves, and they are quite small in number (thank fucking christ).
It seems that quite a lot of tumblr users have decided to migrate to Newgrounds. It's gonna be a new era for this ancient website, but it's going to be an era full of tumblrites.
>believing that SJWs are the ones that will go to Newgrounds
Something tells me you've never been to Newgrounds. They will see all the sex games, leave immediately, and then sperg about how "awful" the site is.
There was a massive callout post with names and ways of reporting. This was back in February. !
The FBI got involved, which is why the post was taken down, in order to avoid it being used as a contact list by other pedophiles. I found this out by asking the OP after my reblog of the post disappeared from my blog. So yes, something was done about it. That something might have turned out to be the feds using tumblr as a honeypot, leading to the current situation. Just saying, it's a possibility.
What are you talking bout? I’ve been on tumblr for years and I’ve seen plenty of posts complaining about Nazis on the site and even pointing out how the staff doesn’t do anything about them after they’ve been reported.
Personally, I've seen many complaints about neo-Nazis and white supremacists, but never saw the actual neo-Nazis and white supremacists. I don't doubt some exist, but the numbers might be exaggerated due to tumblrinas abusing labels like "Nazi".

That law is used to get longer sentences for actual pedos by driving up the total number of images that can be called CP.

That portion of the PROTECT Act was actually deemed unconstitutional. I can't open another window atm to get the link, but I can add it later.

And if I can add a final 2 cents: There is a dramatic difference between fiction and reality, and there is far more research out there discrediting the idea that it directly causes any form of antisocial or illegal behavior. That is just...NOT how human brains work. It's not. There is so, SO much more involved to create abusive people, and it's honestly shocking and depressing how many people sincerely believe otherwise. I lived through when they tried to use this Slippery Slope thinking against horror movies and video games in the 90's (which is a large part of why I'm invested in this issue), and it's cringey and embarrassing seeing the same rhetoric pouring out of people that claim to be progressive.

I'd like to point out that, from what I've seen, the attack against alleged "underage" fan art on tumblr is directed almost universally against teenage girls, and ships like Shiro/Keith (who are both adults, for the record). All highly-stylized artwork in which the age of "minors" is vague at best, and faces are often interchangeable between teens and adults. Literally just annoying teenage yaoi fangirls drawing characters their own age with older characters because fictional men can't hurt or reject them, and they can live vicariously through the "uke", or bottom partner. That's the bulk of it. Not a bunch of sweaty otaku with body pillows of 9-year-old anime characters, but a glorified ship war between a bunch of yaoi fangirls, except one side abuses serious issues to convince others that ships they don't like are morally wrong, and somehow harmful to society.

Sorry that this was so long. Feel free to rate it autistic or whatever--I understand. I just thought the thread could use insight from someone that uses tumblr on a regular basis.

I’m going to rephrase the violence analogy in an effort to make it more applicable to this situation.

Everybody likes sex.
The reason people look at loli is because they’re getting off on the very specific characteristic that underage kids are involved. It’s a red flag.

Now let’s take a group of US citizens who all like person shooters.
Let’s say, if given the option, there are a few who would exclusively play games where they can murder Americans as members of ISIS. This would also be a red flag.

When I see people who seem familiar with loli and are somehow compelled to defend its existence, I think of cows like Glitchedpuppet who snuck CP and bestiality drawings into her SFW accounts, only for people to find out much later that she was complicit in her husband inviting kids over to fuck their dog. If you look at the people who are still stanning for them, they’ve got social media feeds full of drawn cp too. A good handful are sex offenders as well.

Oh and lately her boyfriend likes to make long sarcastic tweet threads defending fictional CP as well. Guess who also spent his 20s soliciting nudes from kids on bulbapedia?

I’ll take the angry hats now.

Dude (or whatever you wanna call yourself), I'm not gonna lie to you, but you sound like some old, conservative church lady.

You have an extremely black and white view of the situation, as well as a black and white view of anyone whose opinion doesn't mirror your own. I give less than a shit about loli or shota, which is why I'm not concerned about it being wiped off of tumblr. I have nothing to hide, so I'm not concerned about my own blog's safety. I just understand that the argument is psychologically unsound, and has been used against other media in the past to massive failure. I don't know how old you are, but I remember when the PMRC thought heavy metal music was going to turn children into Satanists. The PMRC no longer exists. There are also, like...the actual statistics for child abuse/rape/murder, and the fact that they have all declined dramatically in the past few decades, in spite of our media becoming increasingly violent, and pornography more accessible, and if what you said was the least bit true, we'd see the opposite of that.

Maybe I'm wrong, but this unnecessary dwelling on fiction--and blaming it for society's ills--seems like it's absolving actual criminals and pedophiles of the responsibility for their actions, as well as allowing them to slip through the cracks while people are too busy arguing about cartoons.

But you do you, I guess.
