I'm in the EU and other Europeans are.... okay-ish for squid parties. I have most of them with a german dude and a couple of other mainland europeans on my friendslist. It could be a timezone thing, most parties happen around 8-10pm and then early in the morning when it's night in America it's pretty hard just to squeeze a "nice" out of some people at the start of the match. Granted, it's "booya" in America which is 100 times more obnoxious sounding than "nice" so maybe that's why people don't use it.
I started a shitton of squid parties the other day. I typically got american players or european players to join, and occasionally a japanese person or two. There's always that one guy that'll splat everyone else, but those who don't will all gang up on the guy after he splats a party squid-- which is absolutely hilarious to me.
Yup, that's what I meant. I don't really have a close group of friends so most (if not all) the squidparties I've been too are with completely random people. Most of them had been japanese, just a little bit of them had been from America or Europe. Probably it's the time zone like you said, I'm not super sure because I always play at almost the same time because that's the only chance I have. I also noticed that it's mostly the high levels who squidkid the most since we don't really have much else to do.
Levels with tall platforms or water are good because at the end of the match everyone jumps in at once. It's like the ending to a cheesy 80s movie with the freeze-frame jumps.That's courtesy. Some players don't have it (kids I HOPE). Personally when I see that the other team is really struggling (low levels, 3 vs 4, etc), I just stand back and watch from a far, rather let them have a chance than overkill.
I haven't been doing Ranked matches because I want to find a group of good players to play with so I can actually rank upI've had my copy since August 25th-ish. I'd be a higher level if I actually bothered to do ranked matches, I didn't actually start doing them until level 38 for some reason so there I am sitting in C- rank room with level 10 newbies which was mildly embarrassing. I still don't want to do them because my points are sitting at B+69 and it's fuckin childish but it amuses me.
It's pretty awkward being the only one that level. Do you hang back and let the other team of noobs get it? Or do you kick a little ass and let the noobs on your side level up? There's no right decision.
I always leave as soon as possible when I get put in those match-ups. They probably groan when they see my level 42 name slide in.Personally I recommend you don't do this. I played ranked with random people always and it teach you all kind of stuff, from defensive positions to rush, if you're able to cope with any team, you'll realize that whatever rank you're able to get, you won't go back since you're truly getting better. If you get a fixed team where everyone kind of knows what to do, you'll be good at one thing, but once you're in a position were you can't do that thing, you're more or less screwed, that's the reason why most users complain they went from an A+ to a C+ (they say it's because of "bad team" but it's really because they still don't manage to have teamwork). Granted, some teams are terrible, but those are hard to come by once you start leveling up; other teams are super good but I found out that if you take out one of their teammates, the others are super screwed since they relay too much on that person fulfilling certain task. This is just my 2 cents though, feel free to ignore it.
I feel more like a teacher in those situations, I just stand back and follow the newbies around, protect them when they are getting rushed and let them cover some area, if my team is getting too much area (more than 50%) I go back and let the other team advance a bit. It's fun when I do that because I just stand still and see the other team right in the eyes, they see me there, standing, and then I simply run back letting them know I won't attack them and that they are free to take the area. When the round is over I don't really care if we won or lost, as long as the porcentage is almost 50-50 I think it is a good incentive for both teams to keep playing. Not me though, I just choose not to continue playing since I rather let them have another newbie instead of me.It's pretty awkward being the only one that level. Man, I've been impatient since the rumor started up way back. It'd be nice to see if Nintendo really has it up their sleeve and waiting. The amiibos are in the files, so why not octolings too?I think it's more fun to wait for a Nintendo reveal anyway, but I'm ridiculously patient for stuff like this.

I got the game a couple of months ago and I love it. I've been working on art projects and such for the past few weeks so I'm "only" at level 34, but I generally have a great time. My personal favorite stage is Arowana Mall, but I'll admit a bias to it because that was one of the first levels I played (during a Splatfest no less) and where I really got a feel for the game.
