I'll like to state a second time, THIS IS SERIOUSLY IN THE GAME.

We can play a bonus very short southpark mode.

Anyway all in all. I would give this version a 9(.5) out of 10

There still like a puzzle or two I dislike, but it doesn't really bring the game down much. Heroshi is hate able, but that is more of a feature of AO oni at this point then anything.

and that .5 is for the rope eating part making it all the way to the last version. It's been one hell of a ride guys. I guess I'll do Ao Oni R next when I get around to it.

Holy nostalgia Batman, Its a surprise to see an active Ao Oni thread on the farms. When I was an Ao Oni sperg as a kid, one fangame I found rather fun was "Siro Oni". Basically you wake up on an island or coast of sorts and venture off through a cave and to a mansion where a white Oni lives, and I think the game actually tries to explain the origins of the Oni as a "scientific experiment". It wasn't necessarily as horror based to me as it was fascinating.

Oh yeah, one of the custom Onis was a spider Oni abomination thing.

These fangames are becoming lost media tier honestly. Siro Oni had a sequel called "The Custom" too, but for years, I haven't been able to find the damn DL for it. There should be an effort to archive these guys more.

What is Ao Oni R?​

The 'R' in Ao Oni R can stand for a lot of things - such as reboot, remake, or retelling, but at its core it is a labor of love. It is the Ao Oni experience everyone knows and loves, having been rebuilt from the ground up in RPG Maker VX Ace to expand upon the original games ideas while giving it a fresh coat of paint. New story elements and areas, graphics, music, sound, puzzles, expanded character backgrounds as well as multiple endings exist in Ao Oni R while still keeping the principles of the original, such as a low amount of dialogue when possible and the possibility of a fast play through.

Hide or die!​

You are never alone! The Oni always has a chance of appearing! Hide from the immortal demon in lockers, toilet stalls and jail cells, or banish it temporarily using the new item, agrimony.

Fun Fact on normal difficulty the oni has only a 15% chance to show up for random chases. Here the rub, he shows up so god damn much, in my first play through I was chased by him more times then all of the official versions I have LP COMBINED.

Solve the mystery!​

All puzzles from the classic game return, as well as several new ones! New areas, along with 6 different endings and the ability for any character to die makes for multiple runs!

Ao oni R is based on 6.23 so it's all the puzzles from that version are back. No need to worry about my sanity there is no diary puzzle.

An expansive cast!​

All the cast have been rewritten to include a wide variety of backgrounds and emotions, each with their own agenda and goals that can be revealed during the game. Anna and Shun also make their video game appearance.

Most importantly this mean Heroshi isn't a unlikable twat if you don't want him to be one.

As much as I tried, I have probably failed to squash all the bugs. If you spot any, let me know in the comments. Remember to save constantly, just in case!

I'll show off the one or two bugs I did find. And if I happen to find more I'll show them off as well.


The updates for this LP gonna be a little different in terms of how long they are.

The Three reasons I will end a update.

1. We get to a choice as I want you all to decide in what ending we will get. Will Heroshi be a paragon or a renegade(Punching a reporter not included).

2. I feel a update has gone on too long.

3. We just find a good stopping point for the update.

I looked into this, and found the author said this on the Itchi.io when talking to someone a while back.

Sadly nothing has come out.

There is also apparently hell mode as well, no idea how to unlock it might just be beat it on hard mode, which you unlock by beating the game once in the first place.

But for the sake of my own sanity(and how tedious i find being chased every minute by the oni was) we playing on easy.
