Cognitive dissonance in spades.

Airlines are not charities or organizations whose primary purpose is to make you feel good about yourself. They are BUSINESSES who ultimately answer to their share holders. They also happen to be businesses with very tight margins.

The weight and balance calculation issues have been well detailed here and will always remain valid and crucial to safe operation of any commercial flight.

And even if an obese traveller buys 2 seats, they still pose safety risks for other passengers in an emergency. Say your plane goes down and you survive the crash. You still have to get out of the plane ASAP if there is a risk of or actual fire. Those aisles are small and someone like Chantal, especially if in a state of panic, would act like a tight cork, making egress impossible and perhaps adding to the death count. That incidentally is why, no matter where I’m sitting, count how many seat backs I need to crawl over to get to several different exits. I’m not risking getting trapped in a bottleneck.

Fat people ‘deserve’ any travel privileges anyone else does but also need to own their own issues and self imposed limitations. No more complicated than that.

As to her future plans. Her downward spiral didn’t stop post Nader, it slows a bit but is jumping up to warp speed.
