That was kind of the point of the Hunchback of Notre Dame, it was about how Quasimodo was externally hideous, but internally he was a kind, sweet, gentle, caring soul. The original book is a very tragic story, but the core element of Quasimodo's character is that beauty is on the inside, especially the Disney adaptation.
Chris, on the other hand, is ugly in and out. He's also deluded himself for years, believing he actually has something to offer a woman. Looks aren't everything when it comes to love, but even if he weren't unattractive he'd still have nothing to offer in a relationship.
