I think it's just the Gamefreak didn't want to implement multiple sprites for a single Pokemon when they implemented breeding in second gen.

I don't think they thought they were gonna add it during gen 1. Characters like Mr. Mime, Jynx, and some others were clearly designed as males, hell, even Brionne from the new game looks like a woman, but the majority are men.

Worth noting that My Name is Mayo is a dumb gimmick game where you simply tap on a jar and it tells you a story about mayonnaise. To get all the trophies and complete the game, you have to tap the thing hundreds, if not thousands, of times. According to his trophy list, he has completed it twice.

Edit: You have to tap the mayo at least 10,000 times to complete the game.
