SOMA reminded me of a different game I was playing but never finished, which is The Talos Principle, it has some similar themes to SOMA but it's also heavy on philosophical questions which is cool.

However there is one big issue with this game.

It's a puzzle game.

As in it really forces you to think to progress.

Also it's fairly long, however the fact that it's very philosophical and it seems that Null really likes talking about curveballs like that that the game throws at you and it has puzzles that can get difficult may be a good choice for a stream anyway.

It's a long-ass time since I played Talos Principle, but I don't remember cringing at how it handled the philosophical concepts which is a positive.

But the puzzles did get a bit repetitive, IIRC., so maybe not the best fit for a stream.

If you think people Let's Playing a JRPG sounds terrible there are people who will livestream themselves "playing" 100+ hour Visual Novels. How there is even an audience for it is beyond me.

The only JRPG I like is the Yakuza series. It has a story, great characters, and the RPG part really just goes down to you leveling up your fighting skills and substory dialogue/story cutscenes, and the rest is either a beat 'em up or some minigame like darts.

It would definitely be fun for Null to dissect the writing, though really a good recommendation would be just Yakuza 0, which definitely has better writing but most importantly the gameplay is probably the most polished of all pre-Y7 games.

But alas, it's a Japanese game, everyone speaks Japanese, and it's too close to being anime to be acceptable. Plus it would take a shitton of 3 hour streams to complete even if you focus on just the main story.

Honestly I can kinda understand that one because it's basically the same experience as you'd get with the actual vn since those aren't exactly known for their gameplay. People not interested in paying who are content to just find all the same content on YouTube and just finding someone who doesn't talk or muting the audio doesn't seem  that crazy.

I really enjoyed the SOMA play-through Like me, you probably have a couple of questions:
-What really happened at Pathos-II?
-What were the people Josh killed going to say before they were murdered?
-How did Josh manage to 100% the game's achievements?

There is a lore series on youtube, made by the Gameological Dig, that goes over all of SOMA's lore and story. The Full playlist is about two hours, but I think it is worth the watch.

I really enjoyed hearing Josh's reasoning for why he did what he did and hope we can expect to see some more gameplay streams in the new year. Merry Christmas everyone!

I'm in the coin flip is bullshit camp. There was that long weird philosophical tirade by that one guy in the first stream where he said, "for a brief moment you're the same person in two places until your experiences diverge". So they were the same fucking thing, no coin or probability was involved because they're the same thing until that starfish massaging simpleton started throwing his tantrum.

That being said I really enjoy weird little what if stories like that so I really enjoyed those streams.

I remember liking Talos principle but I got really frustrated at the puzzles toward the end and just cheated to go smart off to AI more. Neat story but holy fuck did it get annoying.

I picked up Inscryption a year ago and really liked it. It's a card game roguelike but it wasn't that hard to eventually make it to the end of the game. Once you get the basics you can breeze through it. One of those spooky breaks the 4th wall sort of thing.

Still think Josh would like Disco Elysium but its the kind of game where you want to walk around and explore everything and then you're looking at 60+ hours. They can be 60+ hours of you just being a drunk racist though. Probably not good for a stream.

Since there's angling to watch Null play Resident Evil games, I have a few suggestions with a mind towards entertainment for the audience:

-If you plan to play Resident Evil remakes (1-3ish) make sure you enable 2D controls, using the wrong controls for the game makes certain parts extremely funny to watch even if those controls feel more natural 98% of the time. Have yakety sax and the A-team theme on soundboard ready to go, you'll know when to use them for extra funny.
-4 is good but long, and might not be the best content for the kind of streams Null likes to do.
-5 is really good in co-op but struggles in single player until you play it way too much, inventory issues being at the forefront of that. Null yelling at the AI to stop being a retard could be funny but it will probably get old quickly given how long the game is. That said the ooga-booga zombies might balance that frustration out, but they stop being really funny after you leave the Delta section of the game which is like 2/3s of the way through if my memory serves.
-6 is one of the best designed and granular combat systems ever, has good co-op, and doesn't feel at all like a horror game. Probably not the best choice for streaming, especially since playing it multiple times is how you play it.
-7 and 8 are probably better streaming content but I have avoided these so I can't speak to them too much.
-Strongly recommend Resident Evil Revelations (Rev1) and Resident Evil Revelations 2 (Rev2), the first one you'd want the remaster of, I don't think the second one ever got remastered (it doesn't need it).
  • Both are excellent in that they are designed to be episodic with distinct break-points every hour or two. In fact, Rev2 is technically 2 chapters with 3 DLCs, 2 chapters apiece. By now this should all be bundled together, when I bought Rev2 everything came with it and that was years ago.
  • Rev2 has co-op campaign, but unlike RE5, the AI won't ruin your items so it's not super frustrating for playing by yourself. I think it would be fairly fun watching Null deal with the co-op aspects in single player though, they're just odd enough to create good entertainment for the audience since this involves switching between the main characters and the "girlfriend mode" characters. The girlfriend mode characters are actually useful, critically important even...it's a tad hard to explain fully without spoiling things.
  • Rev1 has a dumb story but the monsters and environment are a breath of fresh air stylistically, and the style hasn't been re-visited in the series as far as I am aware. It's technically an up-master from a fucking 3DS game though, so the dodge mechanics and controls are less than perfectly refined and the graphics do show their age. It's set on a cruise ship with casinos and shit, and there are gigantic fleshy lump monsters, so if you want to make PPP and Kino Casino jokes, this is the game to do it in.
  • Rev2 has a much better story and the graphics look good to this day. More standard style for the monsters with some notable exceptions, also a creepy post-iron-curtain desolation theme to the game since it is set on a Russian island. Also the dodging isn't unpredictable as hell and the controls are smooth like 6 but don't get in the way like they sometimes did in 6. If you want to have fun, turning it into a retelling of the Keffals story might actually work given the uh, everything, except the sex, of the main villain. You could probably pull it off, just make sure to read everything, and pay very close attention to time-shifts between chapters, and names that get thrown around. When you get to the twist in the Barry chapters you'll understand, I'll say no more.

Not going to powerlevel, but if you have an education in anything/something related to the transhumanist trashfires you very quickly get very annoyed with the useless philosophical quagmires retards try to drag you into.

So yes, another reason I don't hate Josh, he has appropriate takes when it comes to this as well.
I think SJ is the thing Josh would find least interesting about WATP.

@Null Would you ever consider doing a Stuttering John Melendez stream with watp karl? I don't know if you're on good terms with him or not, but in my opinion, he's one of the few guys whos been in the dickosphere who still makes good content. https://kiwifarms.net/threads/stutt...-melendez-the-dabbler-stutteringjohnm.130242/
100% agreed, please check WATP out or Karl and Vinny Paulino’s show The Creep Off where they bring in the creepiest creeps of a particular category and the audience votes on which is worse (and there are consequences for loosing multiple times).

Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden is a good JRPG. I feel like it's too plain visually for Null to really comment on and it's actually funny. You can beat it in like 10 hours, though.

As someone who honest to God hates anime I suspect that Null's comments about anime are more "do as I say, not as I do".

I. e. I suspect he indulges (or has indulged) in disgusting weeb media, but regrets what it has caused in his life.

I'll admit I too liked dragon ball z when it was on toonami after school when I was like 10. That zoids show with the tournament like it was an NFL season was also kinda cool. I'll admit that. Have no experience with that form of media since then though. Most anime people are definitely cringe.

You should thank your God daily for getting you out of the anime-to-incel-to-troon pipeline.

Earthbound and Paper Mario are the only JRPGs I've played to completion.

That's odd that Karl would do a show like that yet idolize and hang around with the literal self admitted pedophile Anthony Cumia
