You either like the 1911 or you don't. I love all of my 1911s, but I'm also someone who loves my M1/M14 pattern rifles. Partly due to the amount of personal experience with them. The 1911 is definitely a Boomer carry, more so if it's in .45 as God and his prophet John Moses Browning intended, and if your friend carries it in a shoulder holster then he's almost as much of a Boomer when it comes to carry as I am.
1911s definitely have plenty of disadvantages over modern polymer guns but I don't think they're completely retarded for carry. They're still pretty ergonomic and easy to shoot (and shot placement is everything, after all) and have a vast aftermarket rivalled only by Glocks. As long as you're willing to put in the extra work for maintenance and ensuring they function with your carry ammo I think they're still perfectly viable.

All depends on your local laws and what you want to do with them.

As the others have said getting your basics is what I would also recommend. A carry handgun, an AR, while some may disagree with me I think a pump action shotgun is very useful to have, and a full size handgun if you want.

For a carry gun you have many options to choose from. Glock, HK, Smith & Wesson, CZ, ect. For an AR you have even more companies to choose from Areo, BCM, and Smith & Wesson to name a few. For a pump action shotgun you have three choices: Beneli, Mossbergs, and older 870's. It also depends on how much you want to spend on the shotgun. If money is tight I would say get the 20 inch Mossberg Maverick 88. 7+1 rounds of 12 gauge will solve a lot of problems. I will caution you on keeping a pump action loaded that they are not drop safe. If you have a shell in the chamber and it falls over there is a good chance that it will go off. Don't do that. Keep it loaded "cruiser ready" hammer down on an empty chamber or snap cap if you are paranoid about dry firing you firearms. Most new firearms can be dry fired with no issues. Read the manual. A full size handgun may be redundant if you have a carry gun.

No matter what guns you choose be sure to train with them and know where your carry/ duty ammo will hit at different ranges. If you get an AR I highly recommend getting a 22LR bolt carrier conversion so you can train with you AR and not blow 50 cents a shot. CMMG sells the bolt and mags.
Where do you live at that 5.56 is 50 cents a shot lol. Its around a $1 or more where I am currently at.

So my money is on Susan Collins voting for him. Romney isn't that much of cunt compared to Collins. And then there is Sinema and Manchin.
You're assuming is actually going to happen, and won't get pushed back again.

As long as there's a lot of attention on this confirmation it's going to keep getting pushed back. Chipman isn't just toxic he's radioactive, yes if they can quietly push him through they'll try but no one who isn't from some liberal shithole is going to loudly support him.

I'm not holding my breath. Assume he'll be confirmed.

When you assume the worst will happen, there are only two possible outcomes: you are either proven right, or you are pleasantly surprised.

I know someone thats done it with Chinese ACOGs off Alibaba.
Yeah I was going to go that route but all the Trijis are 3rd party sold now and not returnable but refundable if broken.

The ACOG would be the easiest I think in terms of marking and passability, but I don't want to rip off Eurooptic who is the 3rd party seller. EOTECHs are still sold by and are fully returnable by Amazon but with the logo change I'm not sure I can fool them with airsoft knock offs.

In any event I strongly recommend buying from Eurooptic.com. The company is actually in PA and are great to work with. I bought a 3x24 7.62 donut reticle ACOG from them for 781 and an MRO for 369 after the mil discount. Bought at 10pm and the optic was on its way by 9am the next day.

They offer a 5 percent mil blanket discount and you can get 40% off Vortex. You can also pay by e-check for an additional 1%.

I got that 3x24 on an RS mount on my M70 and it's awesome.

Euro Optic is also one of the only domestic retailers that I know of that sell and have in stock Accuracy International rifles.

Some helpful advice for anyone getting a Ruger 10/22 like @tehpope is that if you get one, go ahead and also buy the Ruger BX trigger and an extended magazine release with it to make it easier to shoot and reload. Apparently Ruger ships those rifles with the heavy factory version and offers the lightweight version on the side. Its pretty much easy to replace the triggers but better to do it before firing a single shot.

I managed to replace the stock on my takedown today with a Hogue stock and replace the trigger and mag release as well. Will test it out sometime soon over how it goes.
