You either like the 1911 or you don't. I love all of my 1911s, but I'm also someone who loves my M1/M14 pattern rifles. Partly due to the amount of personal experience with them. The 1911 is definitely a Boomer carry, more so if it's in .45 as God and his prophet John Moses Browning intended, and if your friend carries it in a shoulder holster then he's almost as much of a Boomer when it comes to carry as I am.
>He likes the M14
Cringe
Found some cheap TulAmmo 5.56 at Bass Pro Shop. After dealing with back-to-back failures to extract, I'm just going back to brass. I just want to zero my rifle lmao
AR’s hate steel case ammo in general. Don’t use it in them. G3, FAL and AK’s eat it just fine.

No, maybe your particular AR hates steel case. Don't make a retarded blanket statement like that lest some moron like yourself actually believes you.

Steel vs Brass testing

All steel does is increase wear on the extractor and barrel by a small margin. Trying to insinuate ARs are so picky and tight toleranced that you shouldn't shoot steel case out of them is fucking dumb.

Fair enough.

Which companies are recommended for AR 15 red dot sights?
I use a Sig Romeo 5. It's slim and not clunky, but isn't just an exposed glass optic.

Edit: in other news, Suzanne Collins is a "no" on Chipman.

What's your intended usages? If it's just for the range, anything everyone else suggested is fine. I personally prefer Eotech or certain Holosuns for defense because the Eotech reticle is amazing for close range engagements. Just put target in the center of the circle and Bam Bam. My dream optic is an Aimpoint CompM2 with the Eotech reticle. I know Holosun makes something similar but I want an actual Aimpoint with it.

The comp m2 was the first optic I ever bought bc I was a boot fuck. I love it tho. Still runs fine and has a great LaRue mount.

I'm a person with Fudd'esque opinions on shooting optics. Pay once, cry once. I've only ever bought Trijicon and Aimpoint.

I have shot Sig optics they are nice as are Holosuns. I just don't want to buy Chinese made if I can.

Still have mine. I have it on a PRO mount now although the LaRue QD is awesome.

I guess since I live in a safe area it would probably be more at the range than self defense, though I bought the rifle for self defense reasons.

Is this similar to the MSR or the different?

A green dot is easier to see in bright conditions and some say they see it faster than red. The trade off is battery life (for example my red dot MRO has a 5 year battery life on brightness level 3 but the green dot version is just 1 year run time). Also some say its harder to pick up in foliage.

With the red you get better low light visibility and the longer life.

What is your view on the Hex Optics sold by Springfield Armory?

Some helpful advice for anyone getting a Ruger 10/22 like @tehpope is that if you get one, go ahead and also buy the Ruger BX trigger and an extended magazine release with it to make it easier to shoot and reload. Apparently Ruger ships those rifles with the heavy factory version and offers the lightweight version on the side. Its pretty much easy to replace the triggers but better to do it before firing a single shot.

I managed to replace the stock on my takedown today with a Hogue stock and replace the trigger and mag release as well. Will test it out sometime soon over how it goes.
Another nice thing to replace while you've got the gun apart is the bolt release. The Volquartsen part is a nice cheap little QoL upgrade - instead of fiddle-fucking around with the factory one, you just pull the bolt back slightly and release.
