Even if their mic quality was pitch-perfect, the voices sounded dead-on to their TFS counterparts, and the jokes were completely on point for the entirety of the Buu Saga, the one massive hurdle that still needs to be jumped over is Toei. They already had no qualms trying to take down TFS before, even back when they were a huge juggernaut in the YouTube space, on repeat occasions. And even with social media and clout on their side, it would still take them awhile to get the channel back/keep from going over a very fine line established by Toei's adverseness to anything that goes against their established brand.

Yes, this is why Dailymotion exists.
If the people who made it marketed it properly, or just put out there that there's an unofficial Episode 61/Abridged Buu Saga somewhere else, maybe.

But it's not going to attract anywhere near as many people as TFS did. And even if it did, your show would be forever criticized for being an inferior copy of the show on an inferior site. At least on YouTube, there's such a deluge of autism and speds that the bar is set so low from the get-go, that if someone made something of quality, it would stand out among the other trash on there. It's why TFS was so successful until now. So if you made a revival of the Saga and it only got around 10 views from it being on Dailymotion? Well then, why bother at that point if no one's watching it?

It could work. If we're being optimistic, it could maybe get more eyes on Dailymotion. But let's be real: most people making this would be doing it for one of two reasons: chasing the TFS fanbase that's now without a home for easy views and clout, or to serve an autistically-charged need to see it through and that sole focus would get in the way of making a good show. Why do you think there's so many failed fan projects for TV show revivals?

Hellsing Ultimate Abridged was their superior product anyways.

I'll miss DBZA, but Kaiser has been suicide bating the show for like 2 years now. I'm not surprised it's come to this. I think 60 is a fine send off, and if Shortz was the direction they were considering to take it, maybe it's better it ends well.

The guys are delusional if they think they will have any growth after this. I won't be surprised if the "amicably split to go different directions" in a few years when they run out of money.

Abridging is dead at this point. The only other people I'd say had any talent for it were Something Witty, and Season 2 of SAO is just weak and MHA's first episode was just ok.

They did, there's a reason you've never heard of it, and the animation for it is horrible.
Sitting through it for the first time by the way, and it is literally just watered-down diet DBZ and it is absolute trash, to the point that they made the protagonist a TFS kid Goku, and the grandparent is a female crane hermit, down to being an assassin with a finger beam.
Oh dear. That was not god. At all. Those shitty flash animations from mid-2000s era Newgrounds that Retsupurae used to mercilessly mock back in the day were superior to this, I mean holy shit!

I understand that a first attempt at creating an original work will almost always be sub-par if not an outright flop. But I still think that Team Four Star could theoretically make something presentable if they learn from this, put some actual effort into it and went for a writing style that isn't Reddit-tier "humour". Though I consider such a scenario, as of me writing this post, unlikely.

Satire/parody is a much different beast than creating original humor. I think that short proves where TFS's strengths (don't) lie.

I’d like to add Project Mouthwash as another abridging group with talent only because unlike TFS, they seem to actually have a stable plan going and are aware that these things are being done for fun

The icing on the cake is that they are totally convinced that their brand of humor that doesn't rely on original source materials is hilarious. Case in point was their horridly awkward sneak peek of their "Unabridged" liveshow.

But they're not. They're a bunch of unfunny neckbeards who desperately want you to believe that they are hip and cool. They dance from failed project to failed project, without ever learning why they aren't successful: they have no real comedic chops when they don't have a source canon (that they are autistically knowledge of) to work with. I think they have fun doing it, which is cool, but it isn't what they're good at. Writing a universe and story of your own is a far different beast than relying on pre-established lore and they haven't learned that yet.

Do I think they're going to fold under? Nah. They're a bunch of spergs and furry degenerates, but they're competent voice actors and they have studios on hand that they can work out of. I think they'll stay afloat doing VA work, so long as they don't sabotage business relationships with hyped up completion dates and timeframes like they did their fanbase. I wouldn't be surprised if they shutter their YouTube brand after another year and another scripted tearfest.

As much as I want to agree with you about the voice actor part, as long as Toei's breathing down both TFS and Funi's necks, Kaiser, Lani and Taka are never going to get constant credits under their belts unless they move to LA or Funi drops their contracts with Toei, neither of which are going to happen any time soon as all three (and their other actors) are based out of Texas by default and Funi exists because of Toei. And keep in mind, outside of Xenoverse (which afaik, Toei had little involvement with beyond cutscenes) and cameos in Resurrection F, One Piece Film Gold and that unaired version of DBZ Kai's reenactment scene, nearly all of their professional credits have been for non-Toei produced efforts like Ping Pong, Heavy Object and RWBY, often in just an additional voice/walla group capacity. Hells is probably one of the only dubs to have them in act in any major roles, and that's mainly because they produced it themselves.

As for TFS as a whole... Hate to say it, but they were never all that funny even in their early days. For every joke that landed and recharacterization that worked, there was always two more of each that failed miserably and ended up worse than their official counterparts. Their LPs solely hinge on the gimmick of being voiced in character as the DBZA versions of the characters and every other abridged effort they tried either sucks or died after a few episodes. By the time of the Cell Saga, I was wondering if they were simply not reanimating it because it was easier to just edit the footage. Because the amount of Kai-tier animation tweaks and additions they kept doing by the end stick out like a sore thumb on the 90s animation footage. Plus the amount of "emotional" moments got to the point where the impact ended up flatlining very early on.

I'm not at all surprised they got burned out and the combined autism between them, their fans and detractors, and Toei's legal team got tiresome incredibly quickly for everyone else just watching the series. I'm honestly glad they're stopping before the series gets any worse than it already has. Buu would have been an unmitigated disaster with these guys (and it already proved it couldn't be Kai'd without spending nearly half the length of the first series to do so).

Think another reason they're much better at it is because they have an actual studio (TFS I don't think had one for years), and they have a professional attitude toward the fun part of it.

They dropped Digimon Adventure Tri's abridgment, though, thanks to Toei flagging their videos. If anyone deserved to be given protection from Toei, it was them. I haven't watched their Fate abridgement yet, but I watched their Bleach abridgment, and wow that was so much better than TFS even during the Frieza saga.

Hold up, you're telling me 3rd and Main Online not only rebranded, but they're abridging the FATE series!? And Bleach (S) Abridged is still going?

...Holy shit, talk about moving up in the world.
Well, hopefully they'll get more exposure now that TFS essentially just let loose a wayward fandom looking for something to try and fill that TFS-shaped void. And if anyone can do it, it's them.

As far as TFS's in-character shortplays go, I shamelessly enjoy Renegade for Life. Lani's Vegeta raging and murder spreeing is fun. I liked the Krillin Plays for Resident Evil 7 enough to watch all of it. Goku's Gonna Show You always made me cringe.

Their longplays range from entertaining to suspicious. I enjoy the occasional home runs they hit with their commentary, but then they will sperg over difficulty spikes and 'broken' gameplay when it's evident they just suck. Xenoverse has douche chill examples of this.

Hmmm, how curious. After the people at Funimation, and Chris Sabot in particular, are caught being absolute degenerates with Toei's IP, not too long after a fan project said degenerates defended says they have no desire to continue making their product.

I mean, its not like Toei has specifically gone after them or anything. And its not like their main and strongest defender did a several minute long rape porn scene with Toei's IP. There is no way these things are in any way linked.

I know this is sarcasm, but I really do think it's just nothing more than sheer coincidence. They're probably tired that Toei keeps going after them and the fans being autimo supremos. besides, unless Toei (or one of the other licensees Funi deals with like Kodensha or Toho) actually does take notice, which they haven't yet obviously (or they have but give no shits), Funi's going to likely get off the hook for their own brand of dumbshit-ness.

If the reveal of the audio did end up getting them to realize shit was up, then it was likely only a small factor in their final decision. Scripted or not, neither Scott or Nick looked unenthusiastic about the series anymore in that video, and seemed to stop caring by the time the Cell Games itself got abridged all those years ago.

I'm pretty indifferent to it myself. I get that he's trying to go for a more dopey voice for him, but it sounds too... How would you put it?
